It seems to be in conjunction with the new update. Everything works fine when you roll back to an older version.

I just realized the only reason it was working was because my Rank Math plugin was rolled back to the previous version before the update.
The moment I updated the plugin, the external links stop opening in new tabs.
I’m going to roll back again to the previous version. Feel free to check the site out for yourself and login if you need.
You have my permission to update Rank Math, add new test posts, and do anything else you need.

Thanks for your reply Michael. This is my original ticket, I’ve re-opened it because I thought the problem was fixed but it’s actually not. Should I open up a new ticket anyways?
I’ve already added login credentials in the sensitive data section, those login credentials will work.

This option only works when Image SEO module is enabled at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Dashboard
This is a bug and it should work regardless of whether you enabled Image SEO or not.
Please update to the latest Beta version by following this tutorial:
https://rankmath.com/kb/version-control/#beta-updates
That should fix the issue for you.
The final version will be released in a few weeks and you will see a notification in your dashboard when an update comes.

The image SEO module enabled the functionality to automatically add missing alt tags to your images. You can check out the settings under Rank math> General settings > Images
