OG Tags Missing in Source Code Despite Social Snippet Setup

    Hi Rank Math Support,

I’m running into an issue with OG tags not appearing in the page source, even though I’ve set up the social snippet for each recipe post.

    Here’s what’s happening:

I have manually set featured images and social snippet images on each recipe using Rank Math.

When I check the page source, I don’t see the og:image (or sometimes even og:title/og:description) tags being generated.

Because of this, no thumbnails are showing in Google’s rich results for many recipes. Some recipes briefly appeared (for example: Stuffed Dates, Bharta, Mocktail), but then disappeared and swapped with others. It feels inconsistent, and my client is understandably frustrated.

I’ve double-checked that social snippets are enabled in Rank Math settings and on each individual post.

    My questions:

Why are the OG tags missing in the page source even though Rank Math is configured properly?

Is there a known conflict with themes or caching that could cause OG tags not to render?

How can we make sure OG tags are consistently output so Google picks up the correct images?

It looks like the schema and structured data are in place, but without the OG image showing in the code, Google isn’t reliably pulling thumbnails for the recipes.

Could you please review this and let me know what might be causing the OG tags to be skipped?

    Thanks,
    ABEER

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the OG tags not appearing in the page source. Thank you for providing detailed information about your setup and the steps you’ve already taken.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check the Page Source: As you mentioned, right-click on your page and select View Page Source. Look for the og:image, og:title, and og:description tags. If they are missing, it indicates that Rank Math is either disabled or unable to print your social tags.
Check OpenGraph Image tags in source code

    2. Plugin Conflicts: There could be a conflict with other plugins or your theme that prevents Rank Math from outputting these tags. We recommend following our troubleshooting guide to identify any possible conflicts.

    3. Caching Issues: If you are using a caching plugin, it might be serving an older version of your pages without the updated OG tags. Clear your cache and check again. Additionally, if you have minification enabled, it can push the OG tags down in the source code, making them inaccessible to crawlers like Google. Ensure that your inline CSS is not affecting the placement of these tags.
Check if OpenGraph tags are pushed towards the end of source code

    4. Fallback Images: To ensure that there is always an image available for social sharing, consider setting a default Open Graph image in Rank Math. You can do this by going to Rank Math SEOTitles & MetaGlobal Meta and uploading a Default OpenGraph Thumbnail.
      Upload a Default OpenGraph Thumbnail

    5. Testing with Facebook Debugger: Use the Facebook Sharing Debugger to scrape your URLs and see what OG tags are being detected. This tool can also help identify any issues with how Facebook reads your page.

If after following these steps you still encounter issues, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can assist you further. A human agent from our support team will take over and provide more specific guidance.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we’re here to help you resolve it!

None of these are the fixes, og tag is no where, I have searched it with CTRL+F. Also Rankmath is enabled already. no plugin is a problem.

    Hi Abeer,

OG tags missing usually point to a theme/plugin conflict or aggressive caching. Please try clearing cache, disabling other SEO/meta plugins, and switching briefly to a default theme to test. If the issue persists, share your site/system info with us so we can investigate further.

Thanks for the guidance. I’ve already cleared the cache and confirmed there are no other SEO/meta plugins active, but the OG tags are still missing.

Before switching the theme on a live client site, could you please confirm if there’s a safe way to test without disrupting the layout? If not, I’d appreciate your guidance on the best way to proceed.

In the meantime, I’ll collect the site/system info and share it with you for further investigation.

I have edited the sensitive data and added the credentials in it so that you can log in to see the problem.

    Hello,

The Open Graph meta tags are already added in the source code of the posts you mentioned.

We’ve watched your screencast, but you’re finding the meta tags while on the editor page. You will need to open the page itself and view the page source instead.

However, we tested your site using https://search.google.com/test/rich-results to validate the schema, and it is returning this error Failed: Robots.txt unreachable.

In this case, you can verify your robots.txt by following this guide:

    Looking forward to helping you.
