Noindex CPT by default, but then index some

Hi there – we’d like to have a custom post type (‘Events’ by The Events Calendar) noindex by default as we have a large number of events with the same description on different dates so we’re trying to avoid duplication (we also don’t need these particular events found via search). However, we’d like to let some ‘Events’ be indexed on a case by case basis. Is this possible?

We could index them all by default and then manually noindex some. However, we aggregate a very large number of events we’d like noindexed and there’s only a small number we want to index. So the work to keep manually nodexing them would be timeconsuming.

    Is this possible with Rankmath?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

Once you have created your Custom Post Type, Head over to Rank Math> Titles & Meta> Custom Post Type> Set Custom Post Robots Meta and check the NOINDEX box. You can then head on to your specific CPTs that you wish to index and set them to Index.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Ok thanks, and if I take this approach, will it then show up in the sitemap?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

All posts and pages that have been set to noindex are automatically removed from the sitemap.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Hi there – thanks, but I’m asking if the CPT is set to Noindex and I have 100 posts, and I then manually set one CPT post to Index, will that single post appear in the sitemap but not the 99 others?

    HI Julian,

    Thanks for the clarification.

Yes this post should appear on the sitemap and all the rest will be excluded 🙂

    I hope this info helps.
