Nofollow links

Rank Math is telling me that all my blog external links are nofollow. How did that happen? I never set them as such. And how do I change them without having to change each one manually?

Also, to educate myself more about nofollow links, I read a few articles about them, and what I’m reading is that it doesn’t matter if they are nofollow or not. If this is true, why does RM say it’s a negative?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Please check if you have enabled the option to set nofollow to all external links under your WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > Links:

If that is enabled, then all outbound links will be set to nofollow unless their domains are added to the exclusion list on that same page.

Regarding this SEO Score test, you can check this URL for more details on this: https://rankmath.com/kb/score-100-in-tests/#linking-to-external-content-with-a-followed-link

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi, thank you for informing me where that nofollow setting is.

Unfortunately the article you linked to, which I read before I opened this ticket, doesn’t say why Rank Math rates nofollow links as a negative. Would you please answer that question for me? Thank you very much!

    Hello,

Google typically doesn’t pass PageRank or other ranking signals through nofollow links. When all your external links are nofollow, it might suggest that you’re not fully leveraging the opportunity to share authority with reputable sites, which might benefit your site’s SEO.

However, it’s important to note that the impact of nofollow links can vary depending on your overall SEO strategy. In some cases, using nofollow can be appropriate, especially if you’re linking to untrusted sources or sponsored content.

You can learn more about the nofollow links from these articles:

Hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
