  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    1. Upon checking your sitemap page and your pages, it seems that this is due to caching issues.

Can you please follow these steps?
1.1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

1.2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

    2. You can’t move pages around the sitemap structure as the sitemap was generated based on the Post type.

Let me know if this helps or fixes your issue. We are looking forward to helping you.

I’ve used those methods to clear the sitemap cache and cleared our site cache. I’m looking to exclude sitemaps from out hosting cache, but that did not clear those pages from the sitemap.

    Hello,

    Thank you for following up.

To exclude your posts/pages in your sitemap, please head over to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > General.

    Exclude Post Page Sitemap

And, here’s how you find the post/page ID inside WordPress: https://mythemeshop.com/blog/how-to-find-post-category-tag-comments-or-user-id-in-wordpress/

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

To add, do we really need to manually exclude posts when they’re already no-indexed? Previously on other post-types, no-indexing them has removed them. We’re only having this issue on this specific post type.

That has been done. The thing is we want the main URL to be present in the sitemap.

    So we have: https://www.apptio.com/events-sitemap.xml

    We want this URL listed:
    https://www.apptio.com/resources/events-and-webinars/

Ideally we would have that in our main page sitemap, but that isn’t possible, so we want just that page listed.

All the subpages of that URL are set to no-index and should not be listed, but they are all present in the sitemap. We have them set to no-index on the back-end and have cleared the cache, but they still exist within the sitemap.

    Hello,

I have checked your site and I only find this URL and other sub-pages/post associated with this page do not exist. These might be google has not yet re-crawled your sitemap,we could give this some time.
We could also try resubmitting the main sitemap that is ‘http://domain.com/sitemap_index.xml’ found under Sitemap Settings>General.

    Looking forward to helping you.

I’m not sure I understand your reply Michael.

    We have this sitemap: https://www.apptio.com/events-sitemap.xml

    It contains this URL: https://www.apptio.com/resources/events-and-webinars/

We want this in our sitemaps.

It also contains all of our event posts. These follow the format https://www.apptio.com/events/event-name

We have them listed on an archive page, but the pages themselves are no-indexed and redirected to the main event page. The events are set to link somewhere else off site so we don’t want individual event pages.

For all other post-types, no-indexing a post has removed it from our sitemaps in Rankmath. But that is not happening for these. Is it because of the redirect? Is there a way to make sure no-indexing removes them from the sitemap without manually adding every new event post to the exclude list?

    Hello,

Thank you for following up, and sorry for the delay.

Since you mentioned that you only need https://www.apptio.com/resources/events-and-webinars/ and the rest of the events should be removed from the sitemap, you can disable the option Include in Sitemap for Events in Rank Math > Sitemap Settings > Post types.

You can then manually add that URL to your sitemap by customizing the filter in this link:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/filters-hooks-api-developer/#add-extra-urls-in-sitemap

I hope that helps. Thank you, and we really look forward to helping you.
