Hi there, I’ve noticed something really strange on my website and I am not sure how to fix it. I have used Rank Math for a long time now and have been very happy with the plugin. I don’t know if this is an issue with Rank Math but suddenly Google is not showing the meta title/description I have inputted on the Rank Math SEO section on my homepage.
When you google ‘Housing Triage’ it’s coming up with a weird title and the description is in Dutch..

Do you have any idea what could have changed to make this happen?

    This is the website https://www.housingtriage.com/

  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I’ve checked searching your site on Google and indeed there are some results showing in different language on your website.

However, I’ve checked few of those affected URLs and found that visibly it’s completely fine on your website and also in the page source. But the issue is appearing only on Google SERPs.

While checking with those affected URLs, I found that the product schema is being detected by Rich Results Tool, whereas Rank Math only adding the Article Schema on your pages. Also, Google showing completely different results that may not even present on your site, but still Google showing them on SERPs. Here are few screenshots below for your reference:

In this situation, I’m doubting if your site is affected by malware somehow. You may try using security plugin like WordFence/Sucuri to find out if your site is affected by malware or not. If yes, you should clear them as early as possible.

Install a security plugin like Wordfence and scan your site.
You can find how at the section ‘How to clean your hacked WordPress site with Wordfence’ on the page :
    https://www.wordfence.com/docs/how-to-clean-a-hacked-wordpress-site-using-wordfence/

You might also check the guides from Sucuri and use their plugin:

Additionally, there’s a common issue known as Japanese Keyword hack which is not exactly same in your case but a seems to be a bit similar. You may also check the URL below and try follow the steps as well:

    Hi Sakib,

Thanks for your in-depth response! I have downloaded wordfence earlier today (after posting this issue) and I have removed all the files that had issues but the problem still seems to persist. It seems to be getting worse as before it was just the homepage and now it is showing that all the pages are affected.

Wordfence says there aren’t any other issues so I’m not sure what I can do to fix this!

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Many thanks

    Hello,

Did you try using the security plugin Sucuri as well?

Also, I would recommend following the URLs I’ve shared above and the steps mentioned there.

I can understand that situation like this can be stressful, but I strongly recommend you to go through every possible way to check for malware in your WordPress site.

Let us know how it goes. We’re here to help you with our best.

    Thank you.

    Hi again!

Thanks for your response 🙂 I have downloaded both plugins, I removed the website and restored an old backup too. Before this I found some weird coding in the index and sitemap files which I believe relate to the issue. I’ve set up firewall blocking and notifications so hopefully this sorts out the issue..

Google is still showing what it previously did but I’m hoping it might just take some time to update.

I was wondering if you could do a quick scan and see if you can see anything out of the ordinary again, hopefully not!

I really appreciate your time, thank you

    Yasmine

    Hello,

Good to see you and I’m really glad to know that you’ve recovered your site.

I’ve checked for the same affected URLs today and seems to be working perfectly fine now, and Googlebot is now crawling the actual page for those URLs. Here are the screenshots below for your reference:

So it can be said that, you site is running flawlessly now.

Google is still showing what it previously did but I’m hoping it might just take some time to update.

Absolutely, you got it right. Once Google has re-crawled your website, they should delete them and display the updated version of those URLs.

But I can understand that the old results on Google SERPs might bothering you. You can also ask for Google to re-crawl the affected URLs in this case. So that, you can see your site fresh and clear on Google SERPs.

Here’s how you can ask Google to re-crawl your URLs:

I hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you.
