Hi, I’m having an issue where the meta descriptions I set using Rank Math are not appearing correctly in Google search results. Instead, Google seems to be pulling random text from my pages.

    I’ve made sure that:

The meta descriptions are properly set in the Rank Math plugin.

The changes have been saved and the cache has been cleared.

The pages have been re-indexed in Google Search Console. what is boba tea

Despite these efforts, Google still isn’t displaying my custom meta descriptions. Is there a way to fix this or ensure Google respects my meta tags?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your meta descriptions not appearing correctly in Google search results. Thank you for providing detailed information about the steps you’ve already taken.

It’s important to note that even after setting the meta descriptions correctly and ensuring they are saved, Google may still choose to display different text from your pages. This can happen for several reasons:

    1. Google’s Discretion: Google sometimes overrides custom meta information to show content that it considers more relevant to the search intent of the query. This means that even if your meta description is set correctly, Google might display other text that it believes better matches what users are searching for.

    2. Page Indexing: You mentioned that you’ve re-indexed your pages in Google Search Console. To ensure that Google has the latest version of your page, you can use the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to check the last crawl date. If it’s before your changes, you can request indexing again to prompt Google to re-crawl your page.
      Inspect URL on GSC

    3. Content Relevance: Sometimes, Google may find alternative text on your page that it deems more relevant or useful than the provided meta description. This could include headings, prominent text, or other content elements.

    4. Search Intent: The description acts as a preview for how best the page is relevant to the search query. Google might change the description based on different search queries.

Unfortunately, there is little that can be done to ensure Google uses the meta description you’ve written, as this process is automated and determined by Google’s algorithms.

If you continue to experience issues, we recommend monitoring your search results over time, as changes may take a while to reflect. If you have further questions or need assistance, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further.
