    Hello,
I’m experiencing an issue with the website I manage: https://terradeibriganti.com.

When performing a search on Google, the meta description that appears is:
“La Brigantessa … Bottiglia vista frontale di Genziana Del Brigante 700 ml, …”

However, in the Rank Math SEO plugin, I have set the following meta description:
“Scopri i nostri liquori abruzzesi. Dal cuore della Majella, un tempo terra di briganti, nascono i nostri liquori, vera espressione d’Abruzzo.”

I would like to understand why Google is not displaying the correct meta description and how I can ensure the intended one is shown in the search results.

Thank you in advance for your support.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the meta description on your website. It’s not uncommon for Google to display a different meta description than what you’ve set in the Rank Math SEO plugin. Here are some steps you can take to understand and potentially resolve this issue:

    1. Check What You Have Set Using Rank Math: Ensure that the meta description you set in Rank Math is correctly configured. You can refer to the following guide on how to check your settings:

Editing Meta Title and Description using Classic Editor
Editing Meta Title and Description in Gutenberg

    2. Check the Title/Description Set in the Page’s Source Code: Right-click on your page and select "View page source" to ensure that the meta description is correctly reflected in the HTML source code of your page. You can also use an online tool like HeyMeta to check this.

Check the Title and Meta description set in the page's source code

    3. Ensure Your Schema Settings Are Valid: Make sure that your schema settings in Rank Math are correctly configured to use the SEO title and description you have set.

    4. The Latest Version of Your Page Hasn’t Been Indexed: Check if Google has indexed the latest version of your page. You can do this by entering `cache:https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/ into your search bar. If the cache date is from before you made changes, you may need to wait for Google to re-crawl your page.

Enter cache followed by the full URL into the search bar

    5. Understand Google’s Discretion: Ultimately, Google may choose to display a different description based on what it believes is more relevant to the search query. This is a common occurrence, and there is little that can be done to enforce the display of your custom meta description.

If you’ve gone through these steps and still have concerns, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern, and we’re here to help!

Hi, I checked and the meta description is inserted correctly, I also asked Google to index the page again. In the meantime, can you help me understand if everything is ok?

    Hello,

The description is already set for your homepage.

You can verify the title and description of your page by using these tools to ensure that they are already set:
    https://heymeta.com
    https://rankmath.com/tools/meta-tag-analyzer/

If they are already set in the page’s source code, please note that Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and shows something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.

Hi, yes I saw that they are already set, but unfortunately google shows a different description, how can I make it show the description I want? Can you give me some advice?

    Hello,

It is a pretty common thing with Google these days. It happens with 70% of the results and we even have a KB dedicated to this problem and a few solutions we recommend:

    https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/

Please check the KB and you will understand the reasons Google does this.

Google has made some changes to their algorithm which automatically changes the titles, discarding the one you have set in your SEO title meta tag. This happens regardless of the SEO plugin you are using. We have covered this Google update here:

    https://rankmath.com/google-update/google-title-rewrite-update/

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
