Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Could you please delete the Rank Math plugin and perform a fresh install by adding the following code to your theme’s functions.php file:
/**
* Filter to remove Rank Math data from the database
*/
add_filter( 'rank_math_clear_data_on_uninstall', '__return_true' );
Once you have installed a new copy of the plugin, you can delete this code and then import the Yoast data once more.

Hi, thank you for your reply. Turns out, my client was quicker than us and manually copy pasted the meta on each page before we could try this.
A question though: why does this happend? Can it be avoided on other sites?

This is a random issue that can happen when the plugin installation did not complete successfully and some tables were not created. Doing a fresh install should however fix this in 9/10 times.
