Hello,
We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sub sitemaps throwing 404 errors. Since you’ve already flushed the cache and updated your permalink settings, here are a few additional steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:
-
Check for Plugin Conflicts: Sometimes, other plugins can interfere with the sitemap functionality. You can use the Health Check plugin to identify any potential conflicts.
-
Verify Robots.txt: Ensure that your robots.txt file is not blocking access to your sub sitemaps. You can check this by going to Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.
-
Clear Cache Again: After making any changes, ensure that you clear your cache again in the Breeze plugin to see if that resolves the issue.
-
Check Server Configuration: If you are using Nginx or another server type, ensure that your server configuration allows access to the sitemap files.
-
Inspect Sitemap URL: Make sure you are accessing the correct URLs for your sub sitemaps. They should typically be accessible at paths like `https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-sitemap-issues/.
If the problem persists after trying these steps, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!
Hello,
Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.
Please follow the steps below:
1. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/
2. Apply the following filter code to your site.
add_filter( 'rank_math/sitemap/enable_caching', '__return_false');
Here’s how you can add filter to your WordPress site:https://rankmath.com/kb/wordpress-hooks-actions-filters/
If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/
We really look forward to helping you.
HI I deactivated plugin and it’s still not working.
Hello,
Thank you for your patience.
We’ve checked your sitemaps, and they seem to be working fine.
Please refer to the screenshot in the sensitive data section.
Looking forward to helping you.
The issue was that every page was set to no index. I could have saved a lot of time if that was pointed out to me earlier. It’s clear this was a testing site.
Hello,
We are glad that everything has been sorted out.
Please feel free to reach out to us again in case you need any other assistance.
We are here to help.
Thank you.
