Hi,
One of my clients (using RankMath Pro) recently reposted this issue with RankMath.
Basically, if I go to the Manage Reusable Block section to add a reusable block and then add a paragraph block or a list block or anything that supports the extra Link Control features that this plugin adds, unfortunately, the link controls are not showing up inside Reusable Blocks.
So, inside a standard page/post if I hyperlink certain words, these extra link control options show up: https://i.imgur.com/aE1CFYH.jpeg
Now if I go to the Manage Reusable Block section to add a new reusable block and hyperlink something there, none of these extra link control shows up there: https://i.imgur.com/q6hrtYV.jpeg
I’ve also tested the same across multiple client sites and I can reproduce the same result everywhere. Do note that all these sites are running WP v6.1.
Is this a bug with RankMath? What am I missing here? Can you please help to add the Link Control options to the Reusable Blocks as well?
Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.
Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.
If the issue persists, please record a video screencast using a tool like Loom showing the troubleshooting and edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
Hi,
You totally missed what I was saying. In your video, you are editing the reusable block inside a post/page. As I said you won’t find the issue in Post/Pages. If you go to: https://YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=wp_block and try creating/editing a reusable block (BTW this is the best way to manege/create reusable blocks) and then try to link something you will see that the link controls are not there.
You can easily reproduce the issue on your end. Try it yourself and let me know.
I was able to reproduce this on my local installation. However, once you apply the reusable block in the actual posts/page, you are then able to see the link controls.
Allow me to discuss this with our development team if this is an intended behavior.
We appreciate your time and patience in the meantime.
However, once you apply the reusable block in the actual posts/page, you are then able to see the link controls.
– As I said in my initial post, this issue is not present in posts/pages but is present in the reusable blocks manage page.
I know you can edit the reusable blocks inside pages/posts but this is a really bad idea and is something that I disable across all custom WordPress themes/sites we build. This ability (editing/updating reusable blocks inside pages/posts) has cost us and our clients, losing critical data and even in some cases breaking sites.
Basically, WP Core makes it super easy to edit/modify reusable blocks inside pages/posts which caused a lot of nightmares. Basically, clients unknowingly modified/deleted reusable blocks inside pages/posts thinking it will only affect that page like any other block while it is a reality that changes got reflected everywhere on the website where that reusable block is used.
Also as WP Core doesn’t core code the reusable blocks in a different way so people can actually understand that these are reusable blocks and not normal blocks, that increases the chance of mistakes from the client’s end creating lots of nightmares.
That is why we always disable the ability to modify any reusable blocks inside any pages or posts and instead guide our clients to go to the Manage Reusable Block page to add/edit/modify reusable blocks which is a much safer way to handle reusable blocks. In this way they clearly understand what they are doing and the outcome of it without doing any unintentional changes among other blocks inside pages/posts.
So, having the link controls inside the Reusable Blocks page is very important and not a gourmet feature.
I personally think giving users the ability to edit reusable blocks inside pages/posts is one of the worst features of Gutenberg as I have seen it causing so many nightmares. But again, you might feel differently.
So, please ask the team to add this feature as it is really needed.
