I’ve checked and replicated this issue in Google search results, and it seems that you’re using WPML to handle your website translation. Could you please confirm?
If you choose other language URL formats, WPML will take care of it by creating hreflang tags and the search engines know the default language of the page’s content and also the translation which is available in different languages. You can also check this link for more information:

Could you please also check your Google Search Console if you have submitted your main sitemap only /sitemap_index.xml?
