    Rank Math free

    Hi there,

In order to index the SITEMAP in Google Search Console, I used the Rank Math SEO plugin. The page item displays the error notice, “Your sitemap appears to be an HTML page,” even though I was successful with the index, post, and category items. Use a sitemap format that is supported.

For instance, “Line 3 Tag: html.” I’ve already installed the diagnostic plugin and run the tests listed on the support website. I simply turned on Rank Math and a few themes, but the issue kept happening (no matter which theme I selected). How can I resolve this issue so that Google can index this web magistv? I apologize for any errors; I use Google Translate to translate my Portuguese.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your sitemap showing as an HTML page. This error typically occurs when the wrong URL is submitted to Google Search Console or if there is a conflict with another plugin or theme.

Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:

    1. Check the Sitemap URL: Ensure that you are submitting the correct XML sitemap URL to Google Search Console. The correct URL should be something like `https://support.rankmath.com. Make sure you are not submitting an HTML page instead.

    2. Check for Plugin Conflicts: Since you’ve already installed a diagnostic plugin, you might want to ensure that there are no conflicts with other plugins. You can use the Health Check plugin to identify any potential conflicts.

    3. Exclude Sitemap from Caching: If you have caching enabled on your site, it might be caching the sitemap incorrectly. You can follow this tutorial to exclude your sitemap from being cached.

    4. Check Robots.txt: Ensure that your robots.txt file is not blocking access to your sitemap. You can check this in the Rank Math settings under Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.

    5. Custom Canonicals: If you have set custom canonical URLs for your posts, they may not appear in the sitemap. Consider removing these custom canonicals if you want all posts to be included in the sitemap.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, we recommend replying to this ticket with any additional details or errors you encounter, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we hope to help you get your sitemap working correctly!
