Issues with display the correct title

    Hey Guys,

I’m not sure if this might be a big bug, but it affects also older websites which were fine before and haven’t been changed since a few weeks or months. Other People in our German FB Group have similar issues. I’m also having older sites with other SEO Tools and they’re still working fine. so I’m pretty sure it has to do with RankMath.

    So here we go:
The issue is – Google doesn’t display the right Title set from/within RankMath. Descriptions are in most cases fine. The weird thing is in my case it affects only the Mainpage.

I’ve attached a couple screenshots… you’ll see the difference. I’ve only added two sites to show the issue, but I have it on all websites using Rank Math. So the title shows a completely different thing.

    Note: worked fine before.

    here another one:

    Hope you can help here.

Sorry I’ve had issue by attaching images 🙂
Hope the links are working now

    Hello,

It seems everything is set as it should in your settings (it even displays fine in the source code) so it is just Google wanting to display another title and description and not Rank Math nor your fault.

Since you have added the title and description and Google still decides to show a different meta title/description for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.

The best you can do is optimize your meta tags to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.

You can read more about it here

This section sheds light on that:

Why the search result title might differ from the page's <title> tag

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know. Thank you.

    Hi,

Even on the reference site I see the issue which just goes to show that this has nothing to do with Rank Math.

Although the title is working fine (more on this below), the meta description doesn’t match what those websites are using:
    Description in the page source:

Actual description picked up by Google:

Now, about the title – both the reference websites are using their brand name as the first thing. That is why it matches the one in their source code.

You are using it after the tagline (?) and Google is deliberately showing the brand name first. So, your meta description is similar to those websites:
    BRAND NAME | Tag Line

If you check your page here, it should show you the same thing as you set in Rank Math:
    https://metatags.io/

If it does, there is not much Rank Math can do if Google is not honoring those tags.

That’s completely normal for Google to include your brand name in the title’s automatically – even if you deliberately leave them out from your titles.

Here’s an article mentioning that as well.

And a link to Google’s forums with replies from Experts saying that it is like that on purpose:

If you wish to know Google’s guidelines on writing Good titles, here are the guidelines straight from the horse’s mouth:

With that said, it largely depends on keyword intent too. For some keyword searches, your custom title might appear while for others – Google might append your brand name to the title and there is nothing you can do to force them to do otherwise. That is regardless of what SEO plugin you use.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

okay – got it… but how comes it worked perfectly for years before and all of a sudden it changed?

    Hello,

Well, recently Google did some updates to their algorithm so it could be the cause of the sudden change. Since it was done just some time ago, no one really knows how it is going to affect the website but since everything in your settings and even in the source code is fine, it could be one of the effects.

    looking forward to help you.
