Issue with “noindex” Meta Tag Appearing Despite “Index” Settings

    Hello Rank Math Support Team,

I am experiencing an issue with the Rank Math plugin on my website. After reactivating Rank Math, my pages, posts, and category pages are showing the following meta tag in the source code:

    html

    <meta name=”robots” content=”follow, noindex”/>

However, I have verified that in the Rank Math settings for pages, posts, and categories, the “index” option is selected. When I deactivate Rank Math, the problem disappears, but upon reactivation the “noindex” directive reappears.

    I have also ensured that:

There are no conflicting plugins or theme functions adding a noindex directive.
The cache (including plugin cache, CDN, and browser cache) has been purged.
Could you please help me troubleshoot this issue? Is there a known conflict or bug that might cause Rank Math to insert a “noindex” meta tag despite the settings? Any guidance or additional debugging steps would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your support.

    Best regards,

    [Salih Ghizlane]

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the "noindex" meta tag appearing despite your settings in Rank Math. Thank you for providing detailed information about the steps you’ve already taken.

To troubleshoot this issue, we recommend checking the following:

    1. Rank Math Metabox: Ensure that the Rank Math Metabox is correctly configured for each post, page, and category. Open the specific post or page in the WordPress Editor, and check the Rank Math settings to confirm that the Robots Meta is set to Index. You can find this in the Advanced Tab of the Rank Math Metabox.
      Rank Math Advanced Tab

    2. Titles & Meta Settings: Navigate to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and double-check each section to ensure that the default settings are set to Index for all relevant post types and taxonomies. If any are set to Noindex, change them to Index and save your changes.

    3. Theme and Plugin Conflicts: Since you’ve already checked for conflicting plugins, ensure that your theme does not have any custom functions or settings that might be adding a noindex directive. You can temporarily switch to a default theme (like Twenty Twenty-One) to see if the issue persists.

    4. Caching Issues: Although you’ve purged your cache, ensure that there are no server-side caching mechanisms (like Varnish) that might be serving cached versions of your pages with the old meta tags.

    5. Debugging: If the issue continues, consider enabling debugging in WordPress to see if any errors are logged that might provide insight into what is causing this behavior.

If after these steps the problem still exists, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can further investigate the issue. A human agent from our support team will take over and assist you more thoroughly.

Thank you for your patience, and we look forward to resolving this for you!
