Issue with Meta Descriptions Not Updating in SERPs (Rank Math)

#995538
  • Hi,
I’m using Rank Math for SEO on my website, but my meta descriptions aren’t updating in search engine results pages (SERPs) even after clearing the cache and reindexing. I’ve checked the settings, but the issue persists. Could someone help troubleshoot this?

    Regards:

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your meta descriptions not updating in the SERPs. It can be frustrating when changes don’t reflect as expected. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Check Your Meta Description Settings: Ensure that the meta description is correctly set in Rank Math. You can verify this by checking the settings in the Classic Editor or Gutenberg, depending on which one you are using. Here’s how it looks in both editors:

      • Classic Editor: Editing Meta Title and Description using Classic Editor
      • Gutenberg: Editing Meta Title and Description in Gutenberg
    2. Check the Page’s Source Code: After confirming that the meta description is set correctly, check the page’s source code to ensure that the meta description is present there as well.

    3. Verify Indexing Status: Use the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to check if Google has indexed the latest version of your page. Log in to Google Search Console and enter your page’s URL. Look for the Last Crawl date to see if it reflects your recent changes. If it’s outdated, you can request indexing to prompt Google to re-crawl your page.
      Inspect URL on GSC

    4. Understand Google’s Behavior: Even after following these steps, it’s important to note that Google may still choose to display a different meta description based on what it deems more relevant to the search query. This is a common occurrence and can happen for various reasons, such as:

      • The meta description is not relevant or useful.
      • The same meta description is used across multiple pages.
      • The content on the page matches the user’s search intent better than the provided meta description.

If you’ve checked all of these aspects and the issue persists, please reply to this ticket with any additional details or specific errors you might be encountering, and a human agent from our support team will assist you further.

Thank you for raising this concern!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Please note that nowadays, Google does that very commonly. Even when everything is fine, Google may choose to display a different meta description or no description for your search query result. Google may skip the custom metadata you have set and instead display something from the page’s content that better matches the search intent.
