Issue with Google Search Console After Adding Rank Math Plugin

I’m facing an issue after integrating Rank Math with Google Search Console (GSC) and need some help.

After installing Rank Math and connecting it to GSC, a new property was created without the “www” (non-www version). Now, I have two properties in GSC: the old one with “www,” which has been used for years, and the new non-www version.

The site currently redirects from “www” to the non-www version, and all the sitemaps are set up without “www” (non-www version). However, despite the redirection being in place, I’ve noticed a significant drop in the number of indexed pages—about 3x fewer than before.

What would be the best approach to resolve this? Should I remove the old “www” property from GSC, or is there another solution to fix the indexing and recover the number of indexed pages?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with Google Search Console after integrating Rank Math. Thank you for raising this concern.

In your case, since you have two properties in GSC (one with "www" and one without), it’s important to ensure that Google recognizes the correct version of your site. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue:

    1. Keep the Non-WWW Property: Since your site is currently redirecting from "www" to the non-www version, it’s advisable to keep the non-www property in GSC as your primary property.

    2. Remove the Old WWW Property: If you are certain that all traffic is being redirected correctly and you no longer need the "www" property, you can remove it from GSC. This will help avoid any confusion for Google regarding which version of your site to index.

    3. Check Redirects: Ensure that the 301 redirects from the "www" version to the non-www version are properly set up. You can verify this by using tools like Redirect Checker to confirm that the redirects are functioning as intended.

    4. Submit a New Sitemap: After making these changes, submit a new sitemap for the non-www version in GSC. This will help Google understand which pages to index.

    5. Monitor Indexing Status: Keep an eye on the indexing status in GSC over the next few weeks. It may take some time for Google to re-crawl and index your pages correctly.

    6. Check for Crawling Issues: If you notice any specific pages that are not being indexed, check for any crawling issues or errors in GSC that might be affecting those pages.

    Hello,

If your site’s final version is non-WWW, then you should use that property in your Google Search Console.

You can remove the WWW version since it is only redirecting to your preferred non-WWW URLs.

    Looking forward to helping you.
