    Hi there at RankMath,

    Me again with an old issue, that reappered after latest update of RankMath version 1.0.100.1

    We autopost all our post from our newssite to several Facebookpages. This gave some trouble before and we made some adjustments. Please refer to our earlier support tickets about this subject:

    #347621
    #346345
    #391954

    At some point those issues where resolved without any clear lead to why and how, because the changes we made earlier with filters had no direct affect on Facebook featurered image post. That came a month later or so.

    We use many plugins and all are tested, deactivated and reactivated again. The last plugin that was updated a few days ago was RankMath. Since that update Facebook is not showing the Featured Image again. Also deactivated RankMath and then posted a new article. but Facebookpost still is not showing Featured image.

    In our child-theme in functions.php we already have a filter in place you made earlier for us. That has to do with the plugin WordPress Media Folder and the addon (WP Media Addon adds cloud connectors to the WordPress Media library).

    It all worked fine untill the last update of RankMath.

    Also changed the file class-image.php as recommended by you in earlier ticket

    /httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/seo-by-rank-math/includes/opengraph

    We commented out lines 249-251

    248 // If the URL ends in .svg, we need to return.
    249 // if ( ! $this->is_valid_image_url( $attachment[‘url’] ) ) {
    250 // return;
    251 // }

    We checked our logs and no other updates have taken place around the same time as RankMath, but it was the only update.

    Just (when writing this tickect) I had an update of our theme (Newspaper).

    Sorry for the list of information. Hope you can make sense of it. Thanks in advance for your time and efforts.

    Hello,

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math for help with your featured images not showing on Facebook, and sorry for the inconvenience this issue has caused you.

    I checked your website and found that the featured image is hosted on Google drive and is giving a 400 error. Please try switching to a featured image that is hosted on your website and check if that fixes the issue.

    Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.

    Hi Nigel,

    We work with this setup for more than 6 monthns now. We use WP MEdia Folder with addon to autopublish to socials like Facebook. For about two months images where not showing on FB, but suddenly the all apeared and we have had no problem what so ever.

    We host our images on Google Drive to keep our site as fast as possible. Since we are a news site every day about 40 news articles are published. We host now more than 21.000 images. If we would host it on our VPS in our uploads folder(FTP) our WP site would become very large (40GB+) and extremely slow.

    The reason why I made a support ticket here is because the FB og:image stopped working the same day as the update of RankMath. Ofcourse FB could have changed something at the same time, but I wanted to rule out a change in RankMath that might influence that og:image.

    But we are not getting a 400 error on published articles and future images. See the following screenshots:

    In RankMath: RankMath

    In Bulk URL check: Bulk URL check

    Also Gogle Developer code seems correct for the article and image:

    As stated, featured images disappered after update RankMath, but could ofcourse be a very strange coinscidence if Facebook changed something on the same day also.

    Again, a lot of info, but I am trying to get a grasp at this. If you can offer no solution with the data provided, please let me know. I won’t hold it against you 😉

    In addition to make it easier maybe:

    On our (regional) Facebookpage FB Regio Online Krimpenerwaard the last image shown before update RankMath shows following link:

    <img height="261" width="500" alt="Klokkunstwerk ‘Vrijheid kent geen tijd’ van Nora van Krimpen onthuld door burgemeester Vroom - Regio Online" class="x1ey2m1c xds687c x5yr21d x10l6tqk x17qophe x13vifvy xh8yej3 xl1xv1r" referrerpolicy="origin-when-cross-origin" src="https://external-ams4-1.xx.fbcdn.net/emg1/v/t13/17260746052438044986?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdrive.google.com%2Fuc%3Fid%3D1civJ_u3-A6ZO8e0ZTnl9tERA-awr-kvz&fb_obo=1&utld=google.com&stp=c0.5000x0.5000f_dst-jpg_flffffff_p500x261_q75&ccb=13-1&oh=06_AbFnBS8T1i4JhSRjSch546ChRosvpe6Ezhmu-MD_l8y9Ag&oe=6356B28D&_nc_sid=aeaded">

    The (large) image after the update shows a placeholder:

    <img height="261" width="500" alt="SGP en LK: verplaatsing ambulancepost Zuidbroek in Krimpenerwaard roept vragen op - Regio Online" class="x1ey2m1c xds687c x5yr21d x10l6tqk x17qophe x13vifvy xh8yej3 xl1xv1r" referrerpolicy="origin-when-cross-origin" src="https://external-ams2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/emg1/v/t13/1476600627269706430?url=https%3A%2F%2Fregioonline.nl%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2FPlaceholder-uitgelicht-RO.jpg&fb_obo=1&utld=regioonline.nl&stp=c0.5000x0.5000f_dst-jpg_flffffff_p500x261_q75&ccb=13-1&oh=06_AbHNycXHIFK0HhVoKVCT2lSNtwfYcLyhYXSvsxKPqlkdLg&oe=63585D97&_nc_sid=aeaded">

    Could this has something to do with changes made below?:

    Also changed the file class-image.php as recommended by you in earlier ticket

    /httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/seo-by-rank-math/includes/opengraph

    We commented out lines 249-251

    248 // If the URL ends in .svg, we need to return.
    249 // if ( ! $this->is_valid_image_url( $attachment[‘url’] ) ) {
    250 // return;
    251 // }

    Al other changes with filter had recieved earlier from you are put in our childthemefolder under the name rank-math.php file.

    Hello,

    Can you please confirm if the Google Drive-hosted images are working before our recent update?

    Can you please try rolling back to the previous version of Rank Math and see if it goes back to normal? https://rankmath.com/kb/version-control/

    If the issue is resolved when rolling back to the previous version, we may need to check this over your admin dashboard. Kindly share it in the sensitive data section.

    Looking forward to helping you with this one.

    Hello,

    I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hi Jeremy,

    Great tip with the rollback. Rolled back to 1.0.100, but it didn’t fix the issue, so it seems not to be an RM problem.

    I did notice some lines where added in class-image.php where we commented out the standard image check. In the rolled back version we commented out lines 240-242 and in the latest version it was lines 249-251.

    /httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/seo-by-rank-math/includes/opengraph

    We commented out lines 249-251

    248 // If the URL ends in .svg, we need to return.
    249 // if ( ! $this->is_valid_image_url( $attachment[‘url’] ) ) {
    250 // return;
    251 // }

    but I don’t know if the issue could be related, because the rollback didn’t fix it as I said.

    Just to be sure I added details for you in sensitive data for our site if you need/want to take a look.

    If you cannot help any further please let me know also, so we can delete your temporary user accounts. After your response I can also contact the pluginbuilder for WP Media Folder Google Drive add-on and report the issue to Facebook if you think that might be a better option.

    Thanks again for your time and efforts Jeremy (or colleague).

    Hello,

    In this case, you may need to contact the support folks from “WP Media Folder google Drive Add-on”. Although our plugin can generate the og:image after commenting the said code line, Facebook won’t still be able to parse the path you have set in og:image.

    With that said, do let us know if you need further help from us.

    Thank you.

    Hi Jeremy,

    Thanks for your time and efforts. I will contact the folks of WP MediaFolder. But it also good be a change in FB-policy.

    Thanks again for great support!

    Hello,

    Glad that helped.

    Please feel free to reach out to us again in case you need any other assistance.

    We are here to help.

    Thank you.
