Hello, we apologize for the issue you are facing with the 404 error when trying to get the URL status. A 404 error indicates that the requested page does not exist. Here are some steps you can take to resolve this issue:
-
Check the URL: Ensure that the URL you are trying to access is correct and that the page has not been deleted or moved.
-
Review Server Settings: Make sure your web server is configured correctly to return a 404 status code for missing pages. If it’s returning a 200 status code instead, Google may still index it, leading to confusion.
- You may need to contact your web hosting provider to verify and fix this setting.
-
Redirect Removed Pages: If the page has been moved, create a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one. This helps preserve any link equity from the old URL.
-
Create a Custom 404 Page: Design a user-friendly 404 page that guides visitors to helpful content on your site. This can improve user experience even when a page is not found.
-
Check Google Search Console: In Google Search Console, check for any other errors related to your site and follow the recommendations provided there.
For more detailed guidance on fixing 404 errors, you can refer to our guide on fixing indexing issues.
If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Hello,
We released an update for the Instant Indexing plugin (v1.1.21) where the issue has been fixed. Please make sure you’re using the latest version of the plugin on your website: https://wordpress.org/plugins/fast-indexing-api/
Once done, please clear your website cache and check again.
Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you.
I am having the same issue. I have the latest version of the plugin, but that didn’t solve it.
Hello @blake-0213,
Please note that the guidelines now state that this is exclusive to a particular set of websites, so if your website doesn’t fall under that category or is considered spammy the submission will go through but the URLs will never be parsed by the API.
You can check the full guidelines here: https://developers.google.com/search/apis/indexing-api/v3/quickstart

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
