i am using the Google Indexing API, but I am facing an issue. When I submit a URL, it shows “Successfully Submitted”, but when I try to get the URL status by clicking on “Get URL Status”, it shows a 404 error, even for my main website page, which is already indexed and working perfectly fine.

I have also added my Google Indexing API account ID as an owner in my Google Search Console, but I am still facing this issue. Could you please help me resolve it?

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issue you are facing with the Google Indexing API. It seems like you’re encountering a 404 error when trying to get the URL status, even for pages that are already indexed.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Check Your Server Settings: Ensure that your server is configured correctly to return the appropriate status codes. A misconfiguration could lead to incorrect responses.

    2. Verify URL Submission: Double-check that the URLs you are submitting are correct and accessible. Sometimes, minor typos or incorrect paths can lead to 404 errors.

    3. Google Search Console: Since you’ve added your Google Indexing API account ID as an owner in Google Search Console, ensure that there are no restrictions or settings that might be affecting the indexing of your URLs.

    4. API Quotas and Limits: Make sure you are not exceeding any quotas or limits set by the Google Indexing API, as this could also lead to issues.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please reply to this ticket with your website URL so that a human agent from our support team can assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

If you are getting the 404 error it means that the URLs are not in the Indexing API. Since the API is only for two types of websites (job posting and live streams) and goes through rigorous spam detection due to recent changes in Google, it’s much more difficult to get URLs into the API.

So, unless you have one of the website types we mentioned and the content is unique, you won’t be able to use this feature consistently and you shouldn’t as the API was never intended for it as mentioned in our own documentation.

The bottom line is that our submissions to the API are working fine, but if the pages are not accepted into it because of guidelines issues, there’s nothing we can do.

Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

so now i should remove the google indexing API ? because I have e-commerce website

    Hello,

Yes, if you don’t have the website types we mentioned above, you shouldn’t use the Google Instant Indexing API.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
