Why I’ve Indexable page not in sitemap?
-
Hello, we apologize for the issue you’re facing with the indexable page not being in the sitemap. The status “Indexed, not submitted in sitemap” indicates that Google has indexed these URLs on your website, but it has not found these URLs through the submitted XML sitemap.
In most cases, this isn’t a big problem, but it can be a useful pointer that you don’t have an XML sitemap, you’ve not yet submitted it to Google Search Console, or that important pages are missing from your XML sitemap.
If most part of the URLs on your website is under this category, then it is possible that Google is crawling and indexing the posts through the internal links on your website and not through the sitemap. As long as the posts/pages are getting crawled and indexed, there’s nothing to be worried about.
But if you wish to identify the exact reason why your URLs are listed here, it could be one of the below-listed reasons:
-
Custom Canonical: If you are adding a Custom Canonical to your page, then it’s likely you will come across this status. By changing your canonical URL, you can get your page indexed and submitted in Sitemap.
-
Excluded from Sitemap: If your post/page is excluded from the Sitemap Settings, then it’s pretty obvious that your URL will not be included in the Sitemap.
You can also check if your pages are crawled but not indexed using the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to find out the reason for your URL not being indexed.
We hope this helps! If you have any further questions or need assistance with anything else, feel free to ask.

How to do this?
Hello,
Thank you for your patience.
Please note that adding paginated pages to your sitemap is not recommended for SEO reasons, as it can create duplicate content issues and confuse search engines.
The paginated pages are discovered by the
next
andprev
tags that are added to all the paginated pages, and as long as the first page is available in the sitemap, all the others will be discovered.Hope that clears up the confusion.
Exactly: what setting do I put to prevent them from being indexed?
Hello,
You do not have to do anything, that is the default behavior of the plugin, paginated pages are not included in your sitemap. But if you want to take it a notch and set these pages to noindex, you can do that from Rank Math > Title & Meta > Misc > Noindex Subpages.
We hope this helps you resolve the issue. If you have any other questions or concerns regarding Rank Math, please feel free to contact us again. We are always happy to help.
Thank you for choosing Rank Math!
I’ve done well to select this option then. Ty.
