Hi all, as of today I have not been able to use Index Now from either the pages dashboard, or from within the Indexing dashboard in RankMath itself. If I click “Instant Indexing Submit Page” from the pages dashboard I get this error:

    “Error submitting page to IndexNow.”

If I copy and paste the page url into the input box within the Indexing dashboard I get this error:

    ” indexnow_submit https://reclaimdesign.org/reclaimed-wood-cutting-boards Error 429 Too Many Requests”

I have not changed any of the Instant Indexing settings and previously it worked perfectly. Please can you assist me in resolving the error?

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with IndexNow. The error message "Error 429 Too Many Requests" indicates that your IP address has sent too many requests to the IndexNow API within a short period. This can happen if you exceed the quota of 10,000 URLs per HTTP POST request or if other websites on the same server are also using up the quota.

To resolve this issue, we recommend the following steps:

    1. Stop Submitting URLs Temporarily: You should refrain from submitting your URLs to the IndexNow API for a while.

    2. Disable Auto-Submission: If you have the automatic submission feature enabled, you can disable it by navigating to Rank Math SEO → Instant Indexing → Settings in your WordPress dashboard. In the Auto-Submit Post Types setting, click the Select / Deselect All button until the Posts, Media, and Pages options are unchecked.

Deselect auto-submission in the Instant Indexing Settings

    3. Change Your API Key: If the problem persists, consider changing your API key. You can do this by going to the settings where you manage your API key and clicking on Change Key. After changing it, make sure to save your changes and clear your website cache. Wait for a few hours before trying to submit another URL again.

Change your API key and Save

If you continue to experience issues after following these steps, it may be due to other sites on your shared hosting server consuming the quota. In that case, you might need to wait or contact your hosting provider for further assistance.

Thank you for raising this concern, and we hope this helps resolve your issue! If you have any more questions, feel free to reply to this ticket.

I have done the above, but the error persists.

    Hello,

This is common with websites on a shared hosting server, so you can get in touch with your hosting provider to clarify this issue.

Also, please note that if you have automatic submissions set for any post type, each time you save an edit to a post inside that post type it will trigger a submission.

This might cause a high number of submissions if you are constantly making changes and saving them. If they are checked/enabled, then disable them.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Thanks for getting back to me Reinelle. I will speak to the host then.
