    Hi,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to seek assistance regarding an issue with the meta descriptions on my website.

Despite having meticulously set meta descriptions for all of my posts, I have noticed that Google consistently displays incorrect descriptions when these pages appear in search results. It appears that Google is pulling descriptions directly from the article content instead of utilizing the designated meta descriptions.

This situation is not isolated to specific articles but has affected all posts on my website, which is concerning for the overall user experience and SEO performance.

I have verified that the meta descriptions are correctly set in the backend of my website using RankMath, and it’s perplexing as to why Google is not reflecting this information accurately in its search results.

Could you please investigate this matter and provide guidance on how to rectify the issue? Ensuring that the correct meta descriptions are displayed on Google is essential for maintaining a professional online presence and enhancing the visibility of my content.

I have also followed the steps that you guys mentioned in this article: https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/

I am eager to resolve this matter promptly, and I greatly appreciate your support in addressing this concern.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response and solution.

  • Hello,

Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.

Please note that it is a pretty common thing with Google these days. It happens with 70% of the results that even if everything’s fine, Google decides to show a different snippet for your search keyword, there is nothing you can do as Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and show something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better.

Can you please share some of the affected articles so we can closely examine them?

We are looking forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I’ve checked the page, and its title and meta description tags are already shown correctly in the page’s source code.

You can also verify that using these tools:
    https://heymeta.com
    https://rankmath.com/tools/meta-tag-analyzer/

Please note that Google sometimes ignores the custom meta info altogether and shows something from the page’s content that matches the search intent better. In this case, the best you can do is optimize your meta title and description to try and match the intent of the search/keyword.

You can also refer to these guides to increase the chances that your title and description will show correctly on the search results pages:
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/title-link
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/snippet

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

I am aware of the situation, and while I understand that occasional discrepancies in meta descriptions can occur, my concern lies in the fact that this issue seems to be affecting all of my posts and pages.

If this problem were limited to a single post, I wouldn’t be overly worried about it. However, given that it has affected all posts and pages.

    Hello,

We understand your concern about the widespread issue affecting all posts and pages.

I checked the cached version of the affected post and it looks like Google has seen the title and description meta our plugin has generated there. It could be that Google has been ignoring this meta information not just for these posts but across the posts and pages.

As we have mentioned before, this would require you to optimize your title and description further to make sure Google will use it for the desired search phrase.

Unfortunately, this is something an SEO plugin can’t control.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any other questions.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
