Inconsistent Post Titles Showing in Google Analytics

    Hi Rank Math Support Team,

I’m encountering an issue with how post titles are appearing in Google Analytics. I’ve disabled the option for post titles to include a separator and the site name under the Titles & Meta settings. However, in Google Analytics, some articles are still being tracked under two different titles — one with just the post headline, and another with the headline followed by a separator and the site name.

This inconsistency makes it difficult to accurately track article performance. Could you please advise why this is happening and how I can ensure only the clean post title (without the separator and site name) is used consistently?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Best regards,
    Fieke

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the inconsistent post titles in Google Analytics. This can happen for a few reasons, even after disabling the separator and site name in the Titles & Meta settings.

    1. Google’s Title Rewrites: Google sometimes rewrites titles based on its algorithms, which may lead to different titles being displayed in search results and subsequently tracked in Google Analytics. This is at Google’s discretion, and they may choose to display alternative titles that they find more relevant or useful. You can learn more about this in our article on Google Shows A Different Meta Title/Description For My Site.

    2. Caching Issues: If you have caching enabled on your site, it might be serving an older version of your pages with the previous title settings. Clearing your cache could help resolve this issue.

    3. Tracking Setup: Ensure that your Google Analytics tracking code is correctly implemented and that there are no duplicate tracking codes that might be causing discrepancies in how titles are recorded.

To ensure consistency moving forward, you might want to:

    • Double-check your Titles & Meta settings to confirm that the changes have been saved correctly.
    • Clear any caching plugins you may be using.
    • Monitor your Google Analytics data over a few days to see if the issue persists.

If the problem continues, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can investigate further. A human agent from our support team will take over and assist you with this issue.

Thank you for raising this concern! We’re here to help you resolve it.
