Images badly resized

Why do resized images have such bad quality?

I had to put the original size image as the source, but now the images are 33mb. I have the twenty Twenty-four theme (I can’t ask on the forum) and this problem occurred with 2 related posts (used one at a time), popular posts, images added in posts and images in structured data in posts.

The “resolution” option is to blame and I don’t know why the images are so bad. https://imgur.com/a/HJmES0j

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with the resized images. It sounds like the quality degradation is due to the resizing process, which can often lead to loss of detail, especially if the images are not optimized correctly.

Here are a few things to consider:

    1. Image Dimensions vs. File Size: Ensure that you are not confusing image dimensions (the size in pixels) with file size (the amount of storage space the image takes up). High-resolution images can have large file sizes, but they should be optimized for web use to reduce loading times without sacrificing quality.

    2. Responsive Images: If you are using WordPress, it automatically generates multiple sizes of images upon upload. Make sure you are using the appropriate size for your layout. Using a larger image than necessary can lead to increased file size and slower loading times. You can read more about using responsive images to ensure that the right size is served based on the device accessing your site.

    3. Image Optimization: Consider using tools to optimize your images before uploading them. Tools like ImageOptim can help reduce file size without significantly affecting quality. Additionally, removing EXIF data can also help reduce file size.

    4. Featured Images: If you want your images to appear correctly in search results, ensure that you set a featured image for your posts. This can help Google index your images better. You can find more information on how to set a featured image here.

    5. Check Image Formats: Ensure that the images you are using are in supported formats (JPEG, PNG, GIF) for optimal display on social media and other platforms. If you are using formats like WebP or AVIF, make sure they are compatible with your intended use.

If these suggestions do not resolve your issue, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!

    Hello,

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

When you upload an image to WordPress, it generates three image sizes(image scaling) by default (thumbnail size, medium size, and large size).

Please refer to the following articles and thread to understand why WordPress does this and how to disable it if you choose to:

    We hope this helps.

    Thanks.

Unfortunately the featured images have the original pixel size: 1200px The categories have a weight of almost 20mb, against less than 2mb of the competitors. Lately I increased the number of visible posts in the categories, but I had problems even with only 6 posts per page in the categories

The guides you gave me are not useful, but they gave a hint that I should work on the theme to resize the images. However, I expected this to be done by the plugins that compress the images.

    Hello,

Rank Math only optimizes SEO and it doesn’t directly handle image compression. We recommend using an image optimization plugin, like ShortPixel or Smush, to reduce file sizes without sacrificing quality.

Additionally, ensure your theme settings are optimized for displaying images. If you’re still experiencing issues, you’ll have to consult the theme author as they are handling the rendering of your images or you may try the image optimization plugins we suggested.

    Thank you!

It was a theme trouble. luckly with a full block theme i can solve easly this trouble. But no one in 4 years have told as choose right “resolution” of images. I had always full size but on screen images was on right dimension.

In fact i had in categories over 20mb as weight.

    Hello,

Glad to hear the theme adjustments resolved the issue. Choosing the correct resolution is indeed essential for optimizing load times and display quality. If you have any other questions about SEO or settings, feel free to reach out.

I’m fine. i hope will have solved every troubles on my website now and gain finally money after 4 years.

If i knew before all these solutions on troubles, i could save 2 / 2,5 years of work.
