image names, alt tags

    Rank Math free

Hi, I’m in the process of building my website (for a small business). I saw your article on how to name images. Some of the images on my website are for aesthetic purposes and have nothing to do with the service I provide.

How do you name an image and what do you put for the “alt” (keywords) when the image is just for aesthetics (to make the website look good/visually appealing) and not really anything to do with the service I’m providing?

    Thanks,
    Roxanne

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Usually, this type of decorative element should be generated using a CSS background to avoid treating it as an “image” element.

However, if you wish to include it as an image tag, you can simply add an attribute role="presentation" as this is used to remove semantic meaning from an element and any of its related child elements.

As for the alt tags, since all images required alt tags for it, you can just add an empty alt tag for it alt="", this may cause Rank Math to generate a prompt or error in the SEO Analysis but you can ignore it. Please refer to this guide: https://www.portent.com/blog/design-dev/decorative-images-how-to-identify-and-tag-them-for-accessibility.htm

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
