Hello,
I’m sorry to hear about the issue you’re facing with your thumbnail and the significant drop in traffic. It can be concerning when changes lead to such impacts. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the missing thumbnail issue:
-
Check Open Graph Settings: Ensure that your Open Graph image is set correctly. You can do this by navigating to WordPress Dashboard → Rank Math → Titles & Meta → Global → OpenGraph Thumbnail. Make sure you have added or uploaded the correct image and saved the changes.

-
Set Featured Image: Since you mentioned you’ve added the image back as a featured image, ensure that it is properly set. You can do this by clicking the Settings/Sidebar icon in the post editor and selecting your featured image.

-
Check Schema Settings: If your content includes videos, ensure that the Schema module is enabled in Rank Math. This can help with how your content is displayed in search results.

-
Google Search Console: Check Google Search Console for any errors related to your thumbnails or images. If there are issues, it may provide insights into what needs to be fixed.
-
Algorithm Updates: Keep in mind that Google frequently updates its algorithms, which can affect traffic and visibility. You might want to review if any recent updates coincide with your traffic drop. More information on this can be found here.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting us and bringing your concern to our attention.
Unfortunately, there is no way we can control the images shown in search results. Google search algorithms select images that they believe will benefit users.
Here’s a link for more information on this: https://www.infidigit.com/news/can-you-control-the-image-snippets-shown-for-a-google-search-result/
But we have a guideline for your images that you can try to follow and see if that works for you: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-show-images-in-search-results/
Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.
