Can you please follow these steps?
1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:

2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:

I have done the above suggestions but it did not resolve the problem. Those deleted articles are still generating 404 errors to bots.

Your post Sitemap has now 74 URLs from 140+. Please check if all the 404 URLs are now removed on your end.
I also went ahead and excluded your sitemap from being cached by your plugin. I followed the steps from here: https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/#w3-total-cache
