How to Properly Index Images

    How do we get images to be indexed by Google? I have included images in the site map settings, but no images appear in the site map. When I open an image in the media library, it say it is no-indexed…now is that the image or the image attachment page? what is the recommended setting to get Google to index my images again…but not all sizes as that would likely create a spam issue.

    Before I used WordPress, Google would always index my images, but due to the various sizes WP generates, it seems Google considers these web spam.

    Is there a way for RankMath to index just one preferred size? And is the image itself indexed or the image attachment page, because again, I have heard that image attachment pages are not good to index.

    Can you untangle this confusion and how RM handles the image indexing issue? Thanks! Love the RM plugin.

    Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    Rank Math sets the attachment pages as no-index since there is no point to index those thin-content pages (but you can disable that and let Google index those pages).

    The images are taken from your sitemaps (page-sitemap.xml, post-sitemap.xml…) so if those sitemaps have content, the images on those pages/posts can be indexed by Google (since you can’t set the images as no-index unless using the robots.txt file, which you are not doing), so any post that is indexed has its images crawled by Google and potentially indexed.
