Does RankMath add meta descriptions to posts where those do not exist or to all posts?
Does it overwrite existing meta descriptions or only include those where meta descriptions were missing?

Hello,
Rank Math does add the meta description automatically to all of your posts, and is unable to override those plugins/theme that outputs the meta description in the source code.
You can find the default option set in Rank Math > Titles & Meta > [Post type]:

To fix this, please follow the steps recommended by my colleague above to determine which plugin/theme is outputting the other meta description in the source code.
Once you have found it, you can disable the meta description and other meta tags since Rank Math already adds them to your site. You may get in touch with their development team if you need further assistance with that.

We know that meta descriptions come from the theme that I am using.
All meta descriptions have been added manually, post by post.
And we cannot disable meta descriptions in the theme unless we manually go post by post and delete them.
Is it possible to disable automatic meta descriptions in RankMath?
Can RankMath add meta descriptions only where they are not present?

To remove the meta description generated from our website you could consider adding the following filter on the website:
add_filter( 'rank_math/frontend/description', function( $description ) {
return '';
});
