    Hi Team,

Since the WordPress 5.8 version, it has started supporting webp image by default.

Hence, I started adding webp images in my all blog posts. However, the issue comes up when I add webp image as featured image.

The social media sites doesn’t detect featured image of webp format, and show any random image from the post.

When I checked, I saw that og:image type is set as image/png.

Is there a way to make webp image appear as featured image on social media.

  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

There is no way to set webp images as the og:image because the Open Graph only supports image/jpeg, image/gif, or image/png.

You can also check this link for the standard image file extensions supported by Open Graph:

    I hope that helps.

Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.
