    Hello,

I am having an issue with my homepage meta data. I have set up the title and meta description for my homepage so it displays on google and facebook, however when I type my site into google, the description doesn’t show up and when I paste my site into Facebook, it just says “Home” under the title. There is a disconnect somewhere, but I cannot find it. Is there someone on your end who can help me identify the problem and fix it?

    Thank you,

    Megan

  • Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

Could you please share your homepage URL? Also go through the following:

    1. I am assuming that you have already changed the SEO Meta Title and Meta Description with the help of Rank Math:
Add a Meta Description in Classic Editor:

Add title and description in Gutenberg:

    2. Then, ensure that this is the setting in the Schema tab if Rich Snippets are enabled on your website:

To reiterate, the Schema title must show %seo_title% and the description should show %seo_description% – this will ensure your SEO title and SEO Description that you set up via Rank Math can also be used for your schema details:

    3. The next step is to check if your title/description is properly set up in the page source:

You can use this tool for the same as well: https://www.heymeta.com/

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for your help and for the screenshots; they were very helpful!

I found that my title/description is not correct in my page source. Is there a way I can edit that? Not sure if it matters, but I used Elementor to build my site.

For the title and description under “Edit Snippet” on my pages, can I write text in those areas, or do I need to have %seo_title% and %seo_description%? I don’t have Rich Snippets – is there a plug in that works well with Rank Math?

    Hello,

The variables %seo_title% and %seo_description% are the default value if you want Rank Math to detect the title and description you have set in your pages/post. It’s still up to you if you want to modify these base on your preference. You can check my screencast in the link below:

I hope that helps. Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.

Is there a phone number I can call to talk to someone or can I schedule for someone to call me? I’ve done what is presented in the videos and screenshots here and It’s still not working. The title and description are not set properly in the page source and it is still not appearing correctly in google searches or social media posts. It would be incredibly helpful to talk to a person and get this fixed. I really don’t want to have to use a different SEO plugin, but if I can’t get this issue solved in the next day, I’ll have to move on.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Sorry but we do not offer phone support.

The issue with your Facebook title is that you have two og:title tags present in your homepage’s source code:

First one (correct one) is added via Rank Math but the one we have highlighted in the screenshot seems to be coming from elsewhere. Please check if that is coming from your theme or some other plugin.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Uzair,

I don’t know code, so I’m not sure what I should be looking for. What would I look for with a plugin? And what would I look for if the problem is in my theme? Once I find the problem, what do I do?

    thanks.

I have two different sites under my wordpress account, both of which use rank math. I’m having the same problem with both sites. Could that be the reason for the two Og:titles?

    Hello,

Another plugin may be generating an additional social media tag. Kindly disable all your plugins and keep on only Rank Math enabled. The title will work fine.

Then, to find out the culprit, you need to enable each plugin one by one and test the title here: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/.

Do this until you find the problematic plugin adding the second title.
    We hope this helps

    Hi Uzair,

I checked all the plugins and it didn’t fix the problem. How do I find the problem in my theme and what do I do?
I tried deactivating my theme/switching themes to debug it. While my theme was switched, the Facebook title/description worked properly, but when I switched back to my original theme, the description went back to being messed up.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Thanks for getting back to us.

You will need to go through all your theme code, identify the file that is loading the extra tags and, then comment it out.
A better alternative would be to get in touch with your theme author so that they can advise on how to remove this code safely without breaking your site.

Please let us know if we can provide any assistance with this.

    Thank you.

Thank you for your help, I’m in contact with my theme support now.

How do I fix the google issue? Whey I type in meganmckenziemedia to google, the Title and Description are completely messed up and that doesn’t change when I switch my theme.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

    Sorry for the delay.

It seems that your website Title and Description are already set up in Google search results
    https://i.rankmath.com/9YhwAu

If it didn’t match with your Titles & Meta setup, maybe you’re viewing the cached version of your site. You’ll need to give it time for Google to recrawl your website.

Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need further assistance.
