Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.
The couldn’t fetch error, is in most cases simply due to a bug in the Search Console.
Check this article for more information:

I hope this helps. We look forward to helping you.
Changing the sitemap name to the “non-pretty link” fixed the “couldn’t fetch” error message. Thanks for that.
I know that on the Yoast, it says “If you can load and see the sitemap using the non-pretty permalink, your server is not setup to redirect and, thus, you’ll need to add redirect rules.”
I’m curious if this is also true with Rank Math is installed, or if your plugin works differently somehow?
Hello,
We’re glad that you got that sorted.
If everything is fine and the couldn’t fetch error is still displayed, then as recommended by Google, we suggest submitting a different variation of the sitemap (i.e, your-domain.com?sitemap=1
).
You can read more about this here:

Hope this helps and if there’s anything else that we can assist you with, please let us know.
Thank you.
Just wanted to follow up on this to check on something.
The error is gone, but when I click on the successfully read sitemap index, the “Sitemaps read” page is blank. See the screenshots below.

Sitemap index link – https://mev.com/blog/index.php/?sitemap=1
Hello,
Could you please allow google sometime to read the sitemap file? It would generally takes from days to few weeks.
Hope that helps. Thank you.
Thanks, Ankit. Just posting an update that it’s still the same situation. I’ll check back again in another couple weeks or so.
Hello,
Thank you for the update. I checked the sitemap URL you posted https://mev.com/blog/index.php/sitemap_index.xml it is giving a 404 error.
Your sitemap is accessible through this URL: https://mev.com/sitemap.xml
It seems like you are using a different plugin to generate a sitemap for your site. If that’s the case, then please disable the sitemap module from Rank Math Dashboard. You should only use one sitemap and resubmit the correct sitemap URL via Google Search Console.
Hope that helps.
