    Dear Rank Math Support Team,

I am experiencing an issue where Google Search is displaying homepage URL instead of the correct post URL in search results. The post URL is working perfectly when accessed directly, but Google still shows the homepage.

    Steps Taken So Far:
I have uploaded and submitted my sitemap in Google Search Console.
I inspected the post URL in Google Search Console, but it still shows the homepage as indexed.
Permalinks have been refreshed in WordPress settings.

Could you please help me understand why this is happening and how I can resolve it?

    Best regards,
    Kundan Verma

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with Google displaying your homepage URL instead of the correct post URL in search results. Thank you for providing detailed information about the steps you’ve taken so far.

This situation can occur for several reasons, including:

    1. Duplicate Content: If Google sees multiple pages with similar content, it may choose to display the homepage instead of the specific post. Ensure that your posts have unique content.
    2. Indexing Issues: Sometimes, it may take time for Google to update its index after changes have been made. You can expedite this process by requesting indexing for your specific post URL in Google Search Console.
    3. Canonical Tags: Check if your posts have canonical tags pointing to the homepage. If they do, this could lead Google to prioritize the homepage over individual posts. You can manage canonical URLs easily with Rank Math.
    4. Sitemap Submission: Ensure that your sitemap is correctly submitted and includes all relevant post URLs. You can verify this in Google Search Console under the Sitemaps section.

To resolve this issue, we recommend:

    • Requesting Indexing: Go to Google Search Console, enter your post URL, and click on "Request Indexing" to prompt Google to re-evaluate the page.
    • Check Canonical Tags: Make sure that each post has its own canonical tag pointing to itself and not the homepage.
    • Monitor for Changes: After making these adjustments, monitor the search results over the next few weeks to see if Google updates the displayed URL.

If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket with your site URL so we can assist you further. A human agent from our support team will take over and provide more tailored assistance.

Thank you for reaching out, and we hope this helps resolve your issue!

    Any Update please?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that this issue might have caused.

We understand that you are facing an issue where Google Search Results display your domain as the site name instead of the actual site name.

There are various sources that Google uses to define your site name on SERPs:

    1 . og:site_name
2 . WebSite structured data (Schema)
3 . Content in title elements
    4 . Heading elements (H1, H2, etc)

Rank Math automatically incorporates the og:site_name meta tag and the WebSite Schema on your page.

This aids Google in understanding and displaying your desired site name.

To address this and encourage Google to display the sitename instead of domain please follow these steps:
1 . Ensure that your website’s <title> tag on the homepage reflects sitename accurately.

2 . Update the og:site_name meta tag to add sitename within Rank Math settings.

3 . Double-check that your logo alt text and other significant areas on your site mention the sitename.

4 . Make sure internal links within your site use sitename rather than the domain.

5 . After making these adjustments, utilize the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to request indexing for your homepage.

6 . Ensure sitename is consistently represented across all online profiles, directories, and other platforms.

7 . If you’ve rebranded or changed the name in the past, verify there’s no legacy content , old sitemaps, or outdated pages sending conflicting signals to Google.

8 . Remember, you’ll need patience as Google re-crawls and re-indexes your site. It might take some time before these updates reflect in the SERPs.

It’s important to note that while these steps can guide Google, the final site name display in SERPs is determined by Google’s algorithm, based on what it deems relevant and user-friendly.

You can further understand this by reviewing Google’s documentation on site-name: Google Site Names Documentation.
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-names

We hope that helps, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.
