Hello,
Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.
It looks like Google may be discovering the URLs without the trailing slash (/) and encountering a redirect error (redirection to the same URL but with the trailing slash), which isn’t actually an error since this is an expected behaviour. Please ensure the affected pages are linked internally with the trailing slash. Also, use the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to check the non-indexed URL (without the slash) and review the referring page to identify where Google is picking it up from.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any other questions.
Jeremy
Thank you for this but I don’t understand how to link the pages internally. Could you explain this in more detail for me.
On the referring page it says None Detected. Here is a screenshot https://prnt.sc/U4gQ22fcaUy8
Thank you so much for your help.
Brian.
Hello,
Pages are linked internally when you have hyperlinks to new pages from existing pages or posts on your website. For example, if you have a page about drainage services, you could have a sentence like:
“We also offer services in Great Yarmouth and Kings Lynn.”
This helps Google discover those pages more reliably.
Hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
Just one final question on this, should I add a 301 redirection from no training slash to a trailing slash or will that cause an error?
Hello,
Since your site doesn’t do so by default, yes, you should.
It is better if only one variation of your site is accessible and the others are redirected to it.
You can follow this guide on how to set up such redirection: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-redirect-to-urls-with-trailing-slash/
Hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
I’ve not had this error problem before so I’m a lttle confused as to why it should be an issue here. I’ve checked the Permalink settings and they are on “Post Name” so all should be well and when I enter a url into the browser without a trailing slash it immediately converts it to a url with a trailing slash and opens the page as it should.
When checking the google error page of examples, and clicking the “open url” button, it now goes to the trailing slash version where it didn’t previously and so I’ve clicked the “validate fix” button and await their response. I’d appreciate leaving this thread open for a few days, until I get Google’s response.
Thank you for your assistance so far.
Hello,
We checked the status codes of the non-trailing slash URLs using https://httpstatus.io/ and they return 200, meaning they are accessible.
Curiously, the URL https://1stresponsedrainage.co.uk/blocked-drain-in-kings-lynn one time returned a 301 redirection to the trailing slash version, but subsequent tests returned a 200 status.

Please follow this guide to implement a redirect to the trailing slash version on your Apache-based server: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-redirect-to-urls-with-trailing-slash/
Thank you.
