Google Not Parsing Sub-Sitemaps from Rank Math Sitemap Index

    Hi Team,

I am using Rank Math on my WordPress site [https://todayknows.com]. I have an issue where my main sitemap (sitemap_index.xml) shows status “Success” in Google Search Console, but the sub-sitemaps (like post-sitemap.xml, page-sitemap.xml, etc.) are not visible under it in GSC.

    I checked:
    – Sitemap opens correctly in the browser
    – Content-Type is showing as text/xml
    – Robots.txt includes the sitemap URL
    – Sitemap contains correct <loc> and <lastmod> tags
    – No crawling error from Google
    – Used transitional AMP mode
    – Hosting is with Hostinger + LiteSpeed Cache
    – Cleared all cache and purged sitemap

Despite everything being correct, **sub-sitemaps are missing in Google Search Console for the last 20+ days**, and new posts show “Crawled – currently not indexed” with “No referring sitemaps detected.”

    Can you please:
    1. Confirm if this is a known Rank Math issue?
    2. Suggest any additional filters, header changes, or sitemap compatibility fixes?

    Thanks,
    Bhavin

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your Rank Math sitemap and the visibility of sub-sitemaps in Google Search Console. Thank you for providing detailed information about your setup and the steps you’ve already taken.

Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot the issue further:

    1. Validate Your Sitemap: Use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to ensure that your sitemap is correctly configured. This can help identify any potential issues that might not be immediately visible.
      Validate XML Sitemap

    2. Ensure Posts Are Set to Index: Double-check that your posts are set to index. Navigate to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and ensure that the Index checkbox is enabled in the Robots Meta settings.
      Index Titles and Meta settings

    3. Check for Plugin Conflicts: Sometimes, other plugins can interfere with how sitemaps are generated or read. You can use the Health Check plugin to check for conflicts.

    4. Review Robots.txt File: Ensure that there are no unintended rules in your robots.txt file that might be blocking access to your sub-sitemaps. You can check this under Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.

    5. Custom Canonicals: If you have set custom canonical URLs for your posts, it may affect their visibility in the sitemap. Ensure that you are using Rank Math’s default canonical settings unless you have a specific reason to change them.

    6. Submit Sitemap Again: After making any changes, resubmit your sitemap in Google Search Console and monitor for updates.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to consider our professional setup service, which ensures that your Rank Math plugin is fully configured according to the latest SEO standards. You can find more information about this service at Rank Math Services.

    Hello,

We checked your sitemap, and we can see it is working properly without any issues.

In this case, please try to follow the steps below and see if that works for you:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

Once done, clear your website cache, remove all the submitted sitemaps, and resubmit only the /sitemap_index.xml in the Search Console.

Please note that Google can take some time to recrawl your sitemaps. You can monitor the “Last read/crawl date” column in the sitemap index as it will update the date when Google crawls your sitemap.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.
