Google Mobile Search shows URL not sitename

    Rank Math free

    Hi RandMath Support,
My website (address in sensitive data) title and all associated pages do not show correctly in Google Mobile Search. With Google’s new minimal display search results, the sitename without the domain extension should show on the right side of the favicon. There is usually a period or a “>” for a spacer, then the page name etc etc. Instead, for all my pages, the favicon shows ok, but to the right of it, the URL is showing not the sitename. I know I am not the only site with this issue as you can see other sites showing the url and not the sitename. But most of the professional sites show the favicon and sitename without the domain extension.

I have reached out to the team at Brainstorm Force as I am using the Astra Theme. They have looked into it in depth and suggested that the issue is like to be a RankMath issue. Their website wpastra.com, which does show correctly in mobile search, uses the Yoast plugin without any problems.

I have looked through all the RankMath settings and cannot find an option to display url or a sitename. Can you please look into this and help me fix this issue. I can supply additional photos if you need them. Thank you sincerely in advance for your help in this matter.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

In order to be able to change how your titles and to add the site name and not the link, kindly head over to Rank Math >> Tiles & Meta >> Global Meta to first set the separator.

You can then check under the various post types and add the desired post title format using the available key.

In your case, this should be something like

    %title% %sep% %sitename%

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hi Michael,
Thank you for getting back to my with my issue. I don’t think I must have made myself clear in my first post as your reply does not address the issue I am having.

Firstly, this issue is not how the titles look in search results (I currently have that issue in another ticket and I have just submitted my login details so that you can access the site).

The issue here is how the search result looks ABOVE the Page Title in MOBILE SEARCH. ABOVE the Postname and sitename, Google displays my favicon on the left and then the url link to my site eg https://mywebsite.com.

If you search “rankmath”, for example, on a mobile using Google. The top result is displayed as follows:

    1. At the top you have a purple square favicon, followed by RankMath, then you have a small “>” separator, followed by “home” in lower case.
    2. BELOW this you have your main site title “Rank Math”
    3. And BELOW this you have your meta description.

You do not have your url https://rankmath.com showing at the very TOP on the right of the favicon.

Most professional sites are now displayed as your is, without the https://….., and with the cleaner domain name listed instead. This is how I would like my site to be seen.

Having contacted the Astra theme guys, they said that this issue does not occur with Yoast, so they have presumed it must have something to do with the RankMath plugin.

I trust I have made this easier to understand. If there is anyway to send you a jpg of the issue, I will be more than happy to do this. Please let me know how I can either upload the image or send you the file.

I have also edited the sensitive data section with my login details for you if you need to access the site.

Thank you again for your help, I look forward to your resolving this issue.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I’m afraid that is not correct. In some instances, Google shows the site’s link on the result page.

I just tested RankMath and this is how it looks on mobile.

    Hi Michael,
Thank you for getting back to me again on this issue. I appreciate your answer with regards to how Google sometimes displays the site link in search results.

I have to say that I am a little confused to how and why Google does this. I viewed your image of how RankMath looked on your mobile and it certainly is different to how it looks on my mobile.

For your interest, here is how RankMath looks on my iphone with IOS 12.4.1, doing a Google search, with the standard Safari browser.

As you will see with both RankMath results and the Kinsta result below yours, Google is not showing the url.

For now, I will just put this down to a Google or browser thing until I learn more.

Thank you once again for all your time, help, and swift replies to my issues. I am very grateful.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

Thanks a lot for getting back to me and apologies for not getting back to you sooner.

I’m going to also keep an eye on any other similar reports to try and narrow down on the cause of this behavior.

    Have a good one.
