The most common cause of this error is caching of the sitemap file. Please check your caching rules and ensure that the sitemap URL is set to NO Cache or bypass cache.

I am having the same issue. Sitemap is excluded in from cache. What else should I explore?

Thanks for getting back to us.
Could you please head over Rank Math > Dashboard and disable the sitemap module. Next, install the following plugin to create your sitemap: https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/
Once the plugin is activated, a new sitemap will be generated at https://domain.com/sitemap.xml. Please submit this to Google and let us know if the issue is still reproduced.

Using the Google sitemap generator works immediately, sitemap is indexed within a few minutes. The issue is with Rankmath sitemap it would appear. I did try reanabling rankmath sitemap to test (the old turn it off and back on trick) but it didnt work
