Google cannot fetch Robots.txt

#936896
  • Resolved Lorena Ribeiro
    Rank Math free

    Hello!

My name is Lorena and I run the website carryoner.com. Rankmath is my SEO tool and the source of my sitemaps.

When submitting my sitemaps and robots.txt to Google Search Console, I get the following error messages:

    1.robots.txt: “Unsupported file format”
2./post-sitemap.xml: “Sitemap could not be read”

I do not use any cache plugin and my host says that everything is working well on their end.

I have tried following the help articles at RankMath’s website but did not have any success fixing this issue.

Would you please help me troubleshoot?

    Best,

    Lorena

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

We checked your robots.txt file and we can see it is working properly without any issues.

In this case, please request to re-crawl your robots.txt file on Google Search Console:

Regarding the sitemap, please try to follow the steps below and see if that works for you:

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

Once done, clear your website cache, remove all the submitted sitemap, and resubmit only the /sitemap_index.xml in the Search Console.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to helping you.
