General HTTP error and Sitemap Redirection Issues - Support

I am receiving a General HTTP error on my two sites sitemaps (especially in post-sitemap.xml and page-sitemap.xml).

On SmallPetsX.Com
My all sitemap versions are not redirecting to the main version and creating their own white page version. I have checked it in the httpstatus.io site for my both sites. I have pasted the redirection rewrite rule codes in .htaccess file on both sites and still showing the same white page error and 200 status code on other sitemap versions. Furthermore, I have also done the same permalink flush and sitemap setting save button steps and also excluded sitemaps from caching plugins on my both sites.

On this site, after pasting the rewrite engine code, all versions are redirecting to the main sitemap version but still in the sitemap_index GSC is showing post-sitemap general HTTP error. I have also done the same permalink flush etc. steps on this site.

Resubmitted the sitemaps after all this process and waited for some time, but the errors are still there.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I checked all the URL variations of your sitemaps in HTTPS status checker and it seems to be returning 200.

I also submitted all your site’s sitemap to an XML validator and its not returning any issues as well as you can see in my screenshot here:

Please ensure that your sitemaps are not heavily cached by excluding them from your caching plugin or any server-level caching software you have on your server. Please refer to this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

After doing so, remove your sitemaps from your GSC and resubmit the primary sitemap from your website (sitemap_index.xml). See if the HTTP error is still there.

Hello,

I’ve also checked and verified that smallpetsx.com/sitemap_index.xml is not redirecting to the final version with WWW.

In this case, you may need to contact your hosting provider to fix the redirection for you as they would be in a better position to assist you in this regard. Please talk to your web host and ask them to help you with the correct rewrite code to use in your htaccess.

Hello,

It’s likely that the website is suffering from issues coming from the Panda update to the algorithm by Google.

There’s plenty of people in forums and online for the past year that have been experiencing this issue and the only way to fix it is by improving the content of your website and so some more off-page SEO optimization.

Technically speaking your sitemaps are fine and are accessible by Googlebot but if Google itself is deciding to ignore them then you really need to dig deeper into your content and improve it.
