Frustrations

    Rank Math free

I’m having a heck of a hard time with Google Console and I suspect it’s RankMath giving me these issues, but I’m not certain.

    1. I’m constantly getting “Sitemap could not be read”, or “Couldn’t fetch”. Why can’t Google simply crawl my sitemap? https://catholicism.website/es/sitemap_index.xml

    2. 152 pages Not indexed… It’s giving me a list of pages NOT INDEXED (attached). Why would these pages not index? (see attached)

    3. Why are there so many /feed, or /tag/ links showing on Google Console but yet I have these turned off in my RankMath settings? Actually, I don’t even know how to turn off the /feed links, so I could use help with this as well.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issues you are facing with Google Search Console and Rank Math. Thank you for raising your concerns. Let’s address each of your points:

    1. "Sitemap could not be read" or "Couldn’t fetch"

This error can occur for several reasons. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

    • Validate Your Sitemap: Use the Validate XML Sitemap tool to check if your sitemap is correctly configured. If it returns a success message, your sitemap is valid.

    • Ensure the Sitemap is in the Root Folder: Make sure your sitemap URL is correct and located in the root folder of your WordPress installation, like this: `https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-sitemap-issues/.
    • Check Index Settings: Ensure that your posts are set to index in Rank Math by going to Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta and enabling the Index checkbox.

    2. 152 Pages Not Indexed

There could be various reasons why these pages are not indexed:

    • Noindex Tags: Check if these pages have a noindex tag set in their meta settings.
    • Quality Issues: Google may choose not to index pages it deems low quality or duplicate content.
    • Crawl Budget: If your site has many pages, Google may not crawl all of them immediately.

You can review the specific pages in Google Search Console to see if there are any messages indicating why they are not indexed.

    3. /feed and /tag/ Links Showing in Google Console

To prevent /feed links from appearing:

    • Disable Feeds: You can disable feeds in Rank Math by going to Rank Math SEO → General Settings → Miscellaneous and turning off the feed options.
    • Check Robots.txt: Ensure that your robots.txt file does not allow these feeds to be crawled. You can check this under Rank Math SEO → General Settings → robots.txt.
