Focus Keyword doesn’t appear at the beginning of your content

RankMath gives the error message “Focus Keyword doesn’t appear at the beginning of your content” even though the opening paragraph, shown below, begins with the keyword “mango”. Why so?

Mango, arguably the most commonly consumed fruit in the world, is called “The King of fruits” and a “Super fruit” because of its health enhancing nutrients and rich creamy delicious taste.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Could you please remove the comma after the keyword and let us know if the issue is still reported.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

The comma has been removed but that resulted in no change. However, I have found the problem. When I apply a color to the M (the first letter) to which I also apply dropcap, RankMath does not recognize the word. When I remove the color but keep the dropcap, the word is recognized and the error message disappears. That is a bug that RankMath needs to address as colored dropcaps give more pizzazz to articles/posts.

    Hi Bally,

I am sorry but we currently only look for exact match of the focus keyword. If you are using a drop cap, the M is separated from the rest of the content when you check the HTML of the word. This is a very minuscule use-case scenario but we will see if there is a way for us to fix this in future releases. For now, you can ignore that particular test since the test is fulfilling its purpose and getting you to add the focus keyword at the start of your content.

The score is there only for your reference anyway and doesn’t affect your actual rankings. Treat it only as a to-do list, nothing more. Don’t try to live by it and don’t follow the tests religiously..

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
