Yes, you would need to whitelist the updateMeta files in your security software and Cloudflare for the meta data editor to fully work.

YOu are only allowed 3 page rules in Cloudflare before having to pay a monthly fee, if you force people to go beyond that, (those on 3 already for caching) I think you should maybe look at ways of avoiding forcing people to amend their site to fit your new coding.

That will be the end of RankMath on my sites unfortunately. I have no need or desire to install WordFence as it has caused problems on my sites before.
I already use some of my Cloudflare rules and don’t particularly feel like having to pay for it in order for RankMath to work properly.
I’m unaware of any other plugin with requirements such as this.

I have to agree with you aecnt, I won’t be upgrading to the latest version as it stands until they stop requiring us to pay $5 a month on Cloudflare for their software to work. It was fine before this update.
Thank you Marcus for that. I’ll roll ours back instead if that’s the case. The way it’s written in the upgrade notes is as if it was an existing problem. I have to admit I had never seen a problem with it, but those things are something I don’t go back and check after updates. I will after I roll back some sites. WordFence is the big unattractive plugin that I don’t want on my sites. CHeers. Have a good weekend and stay safe.
I do use Wordfence for security reasons but the Rank Math version before the new one has no issues working with it so it’s just the new JS-driven meta editor in the classic editor that’s creating the big problems.

Could you confirm while updating the post, you’re getting a 403 error referring to the updateMeta path (/wp-json/rankmath/v1/updateMeta?_locale=user)?
If not, then there might be some other issue. In that case, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Just one of my websites is 2Gb. I have absolutely no intentions of jumping through those hoops in order to run your plugin. We’re very busy news sites.
If I need to install Wordfence on my sites and use up my allocation in Cloudflare in order to use your plugin fully then I will throw your plugin off my sites. It’s that simple.
I consider it extremely rude for you to develop something that requires a user to piggyback off the back of **two** other products. It sounds like really sloppy coding to me.
I’ve already followed Marcus’ suggestion above and rolled back/ not upgraded to the latest version and shan’t be.

You DO NOT need to use WordFence or CloudFlare to use Rank Math.
Those 2 are usually what cause this type of issue and we are merely suggesting you to whitelist the file IF you are using WordFence or CloudFlare.
Since you are not using either, the issue has to be coming from somewhere else.
We are so sorry about the issue you are facing while saving the SEO information after the last update. We have been hard at work and fixed the issue internally.

I’m not currently facing any issues. My question was seeking clarification to the notes accompanying the update that links to a story that gives the impression that those actions need to be done.
If they don’t need to be done I suggest you rewrite your notes to make the situation more clear.But the first thing I see when I go to update is a glaring warning so…

So **if** I am using Cloudflare I need to enter the three page rules to ensure everything works is still the impression I’m getting.

You should enter the three page rules ID all of the following conditions are true:
1. You are not able to save the SEO settings in the Classic Editor after the last update
AND
2. You are using CloudFlare.
If you are not seeing any issue now, there is no need to make any changes.

When you go to the “Allow listed URLs” Section…
– on top, have to eanter each one of these urls…
/wp-json/rankmath/v1/updateMeta
/wp-json/rankmath/v1/updateSchemas
/wp-json/rankmath/v1/updateRedirection
HOWEVER :
– What is the pramarater type? “Post type, cookie, file name.. ect???)
– What is the Pramarter name? “True” or “true” or something else?
Can you send some screen shots of HOW you set this up? The instructions are murkey at best.
On another note : Word fence is one of the largest security plugins. In my opinion, it would make sense to ensure Rnakmath is compatible with it, sans hoop jumping… Just saying. :/

The best way to make WordFence whitelist these requests is by setting the firewall to learning mode and access those routes from your installation so that the plugin learns that those are not to be blocked and “learns” how to allow those REST routes.
Regarding the compatibility with WordFence, we’ll see what we can do in the future to improve on this matter.
