Featured image isn’t showing up in google search results

    Rank Math free

Hi, I noticed when I search for a blog post of mine on google (using Firefox browser) My blog title comes up but doesn’t show a ‘featured image’. It used to in the past. I checked the blog post and it is set up fine. Is there something that could be blocking the image from showing up in google search? Thank you for your help with this.
For Example: searching for the keywords “Dachshund Harness”
It should bring up my article: https://www.dachshundstation.com/best-dachshund-harness/
It just shows the title not the featured image in the post.
Title: 10 BEST Dog Harnesses For Dachshunds [Buyer’s Guide]

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I checked the affected post and it seems the featured image is added and it also shows in your PrimaryImage in your schema.

Google takes the featured image from the featured image you set in your post and sadly, it is automatic, I mean, we have no control over it. It is Google’s decision if show it or not. Rank Math added the schema so it increases your odds to display it (so maybe in a few days it will be shown there).

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

I just turned on the sitemap option to include feature image (it wasn’t on, I didn’t know about the setting). I cleared the website cache, but I assume it will take Google a little while to cycle through to see if that helps.
    Thanks

    Hello,

Sure, let us know how this goes after giving Google some time to recrawl your site.

According to Googe guidelines, crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

Here’s a link for more information:
    https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/crawling/ask-google-to-recrawl

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.

Hi, ok thanks. So far, no it isn’t coming up. I’m bummed. I guess I will wait longer to see if it works next week.

    Hello,

Please keep us in the loop on how this goes. Just do note that even Rank Math correctly included the image URL in the schema, it will still depend on Google if they wish to include your image on the SERP.

With that said, please don’t hesitate to contact us again if you need our assistance with anything else.

I found another Rankmath ticket online with some suggestions. I did the following:

Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/xXXhDt

My question is, do I change the “links per sitemap” from 201 back to 200 after I flush the sitemap cache?

    Hello,

Yes, you can do that as technically, you are refreshing your sitemap.

You may also apply this filter to your theme’s functions.php to completely remove your sitemap from being cached:

    add_filter( 'rank_math/sitemap/enable_caching', '__return_false');

After that, remove all your sitemaps from your GSC and resubmit only the primary sitemap (sitemap_index.xml).

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you on this one.

Hi, I added the sitemap to my wp rocket ‘Never Cache URL(s)’ setting. Yes, the sitemap_index.xml is the only sitemap submitted to GSC. Still not working so far. Thanks for your help through this.

    Hello,

Please wait for some time for Google to discover and index the changes. It is completely up to them if they want to show the image in the SERPs or not.

Since you have already included the featured image in the sitemap and submitted the updated sitemap in GSC, all you need to do is wait.

Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

    Thank you.
