facebook share images show placeholders

    Rank Math free

Facebook shares only shows placeholders on all my websites using Rank Math. Twitter shares are OK. I have a fallback OG graph thumbnail set of the correct dimensions. However, on a mobile phone, the Facebook share images show! When testing, I am logged into WordPress and Facebook on both devices. This is fairly recent, for about two months. On desktop the share images used to pull in the set featured image but this no longer works. I have tried adding separate thumbnails of the recommended dimensions on a few posts in the social options section but that doesn’t help. The websites I need help with are https://www.southcoastview.co.uk/ and https://www.worthingsupport.co.uk/

I will be grateful for your help.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

I’ve checked your latest article in southcoastview, and it seems that the resolution of the image you’re using is too big.

Please ensure that the image file format you are uploading is only between jpeg, gif, or png, and the image resolution is as close as 1200 x 630 pixels as per Opengraph Standards.

Once done, clear your website’s cache and check again.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi Reinelle,

Many thanks for the advice. I changed the first image on the post you highlighed in your reply (which is in a cover block) to 1200×630. I have changed the featured image to use the same image. I have changed the image in the Preview Snippet Editor to the same image. I have attempted to use the Facebook debugger but it would not fetch this new image.

Nothing changed when attempting to use the FB share button on this page.

On my mobile phone, the FB share still works with the new image!

    Best regards,
    Andrzej

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support and sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I checked the page and the og:image tag is correctly added to the page sources.

The image preview is working fine when sharing the post directly on Facebook:

For some reason, the Sharing Debugger is not able to fetch the actual image from the URL and it seems like an issue on their end. But since it is working fine on Facebook, there is nothing to be worried about.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

    Hi Sharmin,

Many thanks for investigating. I now think this is only a Facebook problem as you confirm you are able to see the preview image when sharing d i r e c t to Facebook and that the debugger does not pull in the image your end. I found this thread on the Facebook Developer support site where this seems to be an unresolved issue. I posted my problem there:

    Hello,

Thank you for sharing that thread. You may wait for their engineering to resolve the said issue.

I checked the URL from my end and I can confirm that the thumbnail is appearing completely fine on Facebook but not on the Sharing Debugger tool.

Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
