Facebook Previews

When I check the facebook preview panel, it shows the featured image. However, if I go to facebook debugger, it cannot see this.

However, if I use the upload button on the Facebook preview panel in RankMath, it then appears in the debugger.
Not sure if this is a bug or if this is the way it’s meant to behave? One would have thought that RankMath automatically puts the featured image as the preview image, but maybe it doesn’t. That’s why I have to do it manually.

If it’s not doing it automatically, why show a preview image there. It would be better to be blank, with the message to tell the user to upload one. OR even better still, just auto do it for the user.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
The opengraph image should be set from your featured image if non is set in the metabox. This feature is working fine in my end.

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

It appears to be some conflict with your theme inhibiting Rank math meta data and structured data. You can replicate this by checking your page source code, following this troubleshooting guide(I have already installed the troubleshooting plugin): https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Hi – are we are saying that Prophoto 7 is incompatible with RankMath?

Because that would appear to be what you are saying.

If you’ve tested it and the Schema data won’t appear if I use the theme that I’m using, it’s not like I’m going to suddenly redesign the whole site.

Is there no workaround that you can offer? I was pretty sure that last week it was all working fine – though I cannot guarantee that. I don’t test the schema every day. But I’m fairly sure when I first tried RankMath, I’d have checked the Schema and not seen any issues. What could have changed?

    Hello,

Not incompatible, just something overriding our metadata. Did you have any update on the theme lately? It would give us something to check. Also, did you enabled some options in your theme about metadata or schema? We have seen similar issues in the past with other themes where the only issue was the theme also added metadata and once we disabled it, everything was running fine again.

    Looking forward to help you.

I fixed the missing Schema issue. Sorry, put this in the other support ticket. That was simply because I was stopping RankMath from loading using Asset Cleanup. At the time that seemed like a good idea – it wasn’t. As it prevents RankMath from loading the Schema.

Haven’t fixed the Facebook Preview though – although, I haven’t checked to see if that was fixed by the above too. Creating a new post in a bit, so can check.

    Hi ,

There are a few reasons for the Facebook (or any other social network like WhatsApp) not picking your images and other social tags. We will list them below so you can check which one applies in your case:

    1. First and foremost, you must check the page source of the URL in question. Search for the og:image tag like in this Video:
    https://i.rankmath.com/aJCccE

If the og:image tag is not found, that means Rank Math is either disabled or not able to print your social tags. Once done checking if Rank Math is enabled, you must check why it isn’t able to print social content by following this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Make sure to follow all the instructions carefully.

    2. Assuming the og:image tag was found in step 1, we can proceed to find the issue.

Scenario 1: You are using minification on your website and your cache plugin is inputting too much inline CSS into your page source that your OpenGraph tags are pushed way too down your page’s source:
    turn off minification

If this is the cache, you must move your inline CSS to a file because Facebook and other social networks will only look for OpenGraph tags in the first 60kbs of your page’s source. If they don’t find it, they will assume you haven’t added them. They don’t want to waste their resources crawling huge pages looking for OpenGraph tags.

Once you are done, you might want to test again here:
    https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

    Click the Scrape Again button:
    scarpe again facebook debug tool

You should now see the OpenGraph tags update including the image.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you.

Looks like I fixed this. The explanation about the og:image needing to be present explains perfectly why too. Thank you.

This was clearly being caused by the same issue I have with the Schema. Because I had told Asset Cleanup not to load RankMath on pages, it wasn’t able to show the schema from RankMath on the page, which in turn meant it couldn’t see the og:image description.

My assumption had been that RankMath was only working in the background. But in fact, it does need to load on every page. Turning it back on fixed the Schema and without me realising, also fixed the Facebook preview issue.
