Hi,
on a client site (that’s not SEO-optimized) up to now, I have set the meta-descriptions to “excerpt” (see screenshot 1). I would expect Google to use the first (one of the first) sentences on the page.
When viewing the live page AND looking for the same page in Google-SERPS, I find out, that Google uses exactly what I had expected => the first sentence of the content => everything’s fine! (see screenshot 2).
The Problem
===========
Our SEO Tool (https://pagerangers.com) says that there is NO META DESCRIPTION. After checking this with the source code of the page, there is indeed no meta description visible: https://schmid-erdbau.at/erdbau/gartenanlage/ (see screenshot 3)I have done a test and have written on this exact page a manual meta description in the rank math backend and saved that page. After this I could find a meta description in the source code.
Why?
====
Why do Google SERP’s show the correct automatic meta description THOUGH there is none visible in the source code? Does this %excerpt%-setting have a negative effect on SEO rankings?Thanks and best regards
