Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Just to be sure, which code have you added? Could you post it so we can use it in a local installation to debug it?
Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
Hi Alberto,
I installed the Easy table of contents plugin and then used the shortcode [ez-toc] to place the table where I wanted inside the post.
Since it generates links to the headings, Rank Math is telling me I have 14 internal links in my latest post, which coincide with the 14 links the table of contents generated for the headings.
Hi,
We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/
You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):
https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/
We really look forward to helping you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
On the latest post, Rank Math shows 19 internal and incoming links. There is a shortcode [ez-toc] inside the post. If you remove it and update, you’ll see those 19 links will go down to 0.

Hello,
I was able to replicate the issue and I have forwarded it to the devs so they can check it and try to provide a solution.
Looking forward to help you.
Hello,
It seems your login details don’t work anymore so our devs are not able to log in and check the issue, could you check it?
Looking forward to help you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Sorry about that Alberto, please try now.
Hello,
Rank Math is reporting the data correctly as the ToC links are in essence internal links.
This is nothing to be worried about and one of those situations where offering a solution will break one or the other feature. So, we recommend ignoring it and manually compensating for the internal links.
Hope that helps.
That’s unfortunate. It must be a way for Rank Math to ignore the in-post links pointing to that same post with # tags.
I tested it with Yoast, and it is ignoring those kinds of links.
I like Rank Math better than Yoast, but one functionality that makes or brakes for me is how easy it is to know how many links I have from that post out and incoming, and right now, the information Rank Math is showing for me is not accurate.
Hi,
I totally understand and I have added this to our internal roadmap for further improvement.
If you are using relative links, Rank Math will not detect them as internal links. Please change your absolute links to relative links or share an example of a post where your relative links are being detected as internal links. It is not happening on our test install:

Thank you and we look forward to getting more information.
Hi Uzair,
It makes sense now. Easy Table of Contents plugin is using absolute links, and that is why rank math is detecting them as internal.
I tested creating a relative link manually, and Rank Math didn’t detect it as an internal link.
Thank you very much for your time
Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up! Then, do you have any other questions? Or do you want us to close this thread? In any case, we will be here if you have any other questions or issues in the future.
Looking forward to help you.
Hi Adre, have you found a solution and can you share? I’ve checked the Easy TOC plugin but can’t find anything to use relative links. Really unfortunate, that feature is crucial for me
