No I rename the slug in the wordpress permalink below the title. This is then NOT updated to the snippet slug

Since the URL from Rank Math is stored in a custom field, the same gets propagated to the new product you duplicate.
Please click on the URL field in the search preview in Rank Math and make the change from there.

But that is maddening. The easiest way to create new products is to duplicate existing ones. You are telling me that I will have to go through over 400 products and redo the RankMath slug. Makes the plugin unusable. Why not hook the slug in your custom field. Back to Yoast. Seriously this should have been thought of – rediculous
Sorry I got angry the plugin is fantastic I had no right to have a go. But just to clarify this is only an admin display thing and will not translate to the actual google snippet right?

Oh no it isn’t – I see if you change the slug in Rank Math it changes the wordpress permalink. Ohhh this is just annoying. Why change the whole way this is done – makes no sense. Yoast you change the link the wordpress way their slug updates – thats the right way to do it. Now I have to go through hundreds of products and redo the slugs – stupid. Then I have to tell the client that actually you don’t do it this way you do it another way. Why do you need this as a custom field and not the default slug?

Can I just get the ultimate clarification here because this seems to be very confusing
I have a product with the slug /brass-koi-fish/. However because the product was duplicated the Rank Math slug displays /brass-paperweight/. What will the google snippet display as the slug? If it displays /brass-paperweight/ it’s going to link to the wrong product?

I understand your frustration.
Please check the following screencasts:
1. Editing the permalink in WordPress changes it in the Rank Math Search preview as well: https://i.rankmath.com/DMslAz
2. When you duplicate a product, Rank Math’s preview shows the previous product’s URL. This is a bug. However, it doesn’t affect the actual product URL which will be the same one you see in the WordPress URL area: https://i.rankmath.com/qiyHCv
3. We are going to fix the above bug in the Search Preview when a product is duplicated. So sorry for the confusion this must have caused.

About the ETA for the fix, we hope to have it as soon as possible. We don’t have an ETA but be sure we will try to do it as fast as we can.
About the search preview in the editor; it is not exactly how it will look, just an estimation since Google can change it as whatever it wants (for example it can or not display rich snippets, dates, and so on…). For example, in your case, probably the slug is being replaced with the breadcrumbs path.

But I still am not getting an answer to the most important question. Will google snippet display what is in the RanK Math preview. I ask this for one simple reason – I’m not going to go live and get listed with the wrong slug information.
SO IF A YES OR NO ANSWER IS POSSIBLE _ WILL THE GOOGLE SNIPPET DISPLAY THE CORRECT WORDPRESS SLUG OR THE RANK MATH PREVIEW SLUG?
By this I mean is the RM preview display slug a real piece of data that google may or may not be able access? I get what google displays is what it wants to but can it or will it ever be able to display the RM preview slug?

A quick answer is no. It is just a preview but Google can change it (even the title and description) to whatever it wants.
It is just a preview of what you should see but it can change (like in your case the slug is being replaced with the breadcrumbs path).
When you add a rich snippet or structured data, Google gets it and it might show it, but it is not guaranteed (anyway it is better to have the option, so that is why most people include it).
