How do I avoid Duplicate Content if Tumbler and Medium have the same text as my website?
What other social networks should I watch out for?
-
Hello, we apologize for the issue you are facing regarding duplicate content. To avoid duplicate content when using platforms like Tumblr and Medium, consider the following strategies:
-
Use Canonical Tags: Implement canonical tags on your website to indicate the original source of the content. This helps search engines understand which version to prioritize in search results.
-
Create Unique Content: Whenever possible, create unique content tailored for each platform. This not only helps with SEO but also engages your audience better.
-
Limit Cross-Posting: If you must share the same content across multiple platforms, consider summarizing or altering the text slightly to make it unique.
-
Link Back to Your Site: When posting on social media or other platforms, include links back to your original content. This can help drive traffic to your site and signal to search engines where the original content resides.
-
Monitor Your Content: Regularly check for duplicate content issues using tools like Google Search Console or other SEO tools that can help identify duplicate content across the web.
As for other social networks to watch out for, be mindful of platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter, as they can also lead to duplicate content issues if the same text is shared across them without modification.

Hello,
Thank you for your query and we are so sorry about the trouble this must have caused.
The only way to prevent duplicate content across websites is by utilizing the Canonical URL.
However, if the posts or content from Tumblr and Medium are not yours, then this is something you need to check with the author.
You may also check out platforms like LinkedIn Articles, Facebook Notes, and Quora, where the same content may be published.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any other questions.
What can I do? The contents are mine. I would like to know if it is enough to have the canonical link of Rank math on my site, but I fear that my problem that I have had for 2 years comes from other platforms that have the same contents as me.
Obviously I published them, but if this is the problem, I am afraid that it could receive negative SEO if used by competitors.
In the meantime I create internal links and also use tags, very useful for the type of site I have. However, I fear that it will be a small help. If it helps, it means that the quality of the posts does not matter much, but an excellent internal link done properly.
Hello,
Since the content is yours and you’re concerned about duplicate content across platforms like Tumblr and Medium, using canonical links is indeed an effective way to signal to search engines that your website is the original source. Rank Math automatically adds canonical URLs to your site, which helps search engines understand where the primary version of your content is located.
However, publishing the same content on multiple platforms can still raise concerns about duplicate content, even if it’s your own. To mitigate this, here are a few strategies you can implement:
1. Canonical Tags on Other Platforms: If possible, ensure that the other platforms allow you to set a canonical URL back to your website. This tells search engines that your website is the authoritative source. This might not be possible on most platforms.
2. Repurpose Content: Consider slightly modifying the content when reposting it on other platforms. For instance, you can write a summary, change headings, or add unique intros, rather than posting the exact same text.
3. Delay Cross-Posting: Publish your content on your main website first and wait for it to be indexed by search engines before sharing it elsewhere. This ensures your site is recognized as the original source.
4. NoIndex on Other Platforms: If you want to completely avoid duplicate content issues, you can set posts on other platforms to “noindex” (if the platform allows). This prevents search engines from indexing those versions of your content.
Regarding your concern about negative SEO: while it’s unlikely that syndicating your own content would harm your SEO, if competitors try to misuse this, Google’s algorithms are designed to identify the original source of content. Your focus on internal linking and high-quality content is excellent, as both strengthen the overall SEO health of your website.
If you’re still worried, you might also monitor your website’s performance with tools like Google Search Console and keep an eye on duplicate content flags.
We hope this helps.
Thanks.
I took a quick look and I don’t think there could be a duplicate post issue. Medium only has 6 links on Google.
Instead, I think it’s better to put the title and an excerpt in related posts, popular posts, categories and tags. I’m missing a lot of anchor text and some text related to links when they are near images that lead to game posts.
Hello,
It sounds like you’re on the right track by focusing on titles, excerpts, and enhancing your internal linking strategy. Incorporating relevant anchor text and contextual links near images can indeed improve your SEO and help guide visitors to related content.
